Edward
Barnett and his wife Kitty (nee Chapman) came to South Australia
from Perth, Western Australia. After residing at Woodville for a
while they moved to what we now refer to as Golden Grove.
He
was by all accounts a very good boot maker as there is a story
told by Abigail Sawyer, a grand daughter, of a pair of boots made
for a grandson still being around 50 years later!
Edward
was 28 years old when he took up residence in Golden Grove and at
that time there were about 20 30 houses scattered around. He
and Kitty had thirteen children in total and were known to be god
fearing, churchgoing people. The children helped to deliver the
new or repaired boots and shoes and had the uncomfortable job of
collecting the money owed to Mr. Barnett.
