The City of Tea Tree Gully first asked for 'expressions of interest' from local residents willing to assist in the formation of an historical society in 2000. The response showed that there was great commitment in the district to the preservation of the continuing story of 'The Gully'. The Tea Tree Gully & District Historical Society Incorporated became a reality in March 2001, with the election of office bearers, committee members and the adoption of the constitution. Much hard work preceded this event, with a steering committee doing the groundwork during the previous twelve months
The Society has since gone from strength to strength, with the production of a bright and cheerful monthly newsletter called 'The Gullyian', a challenging research programme and a wide range of speakers and events. With the creation of the new 'Historical Society' it was envisaged that not only would a logo be required to give the Society credence, but also a Web presence. Both were achieved, when the art students of Kildare College, rose to the challenge of creating a suitable logo and a local university student, Sara Simmonds, in her last year of study offered her services to create a free web presence for the Society.

Our aim is to promote community interest and to record the history of the area. We also promote interest in South Australian History, through regular monthly meetings, guest speakers and social outings. Why Not Join Us? Membership forms are available on request from the Local History room of the City of Tea Tree Gully Library or by mail to the above address. Our newsletter 'The Gullyian' is sent to our members on a monthly basis, with a copy being kept in the Local History room of the City of Tea Tree Gully Library .
