Dr. Priscilla Dean Slade was named President of Texas Southern University on October 27, 1999 by the Texas Southern University Board of Regents. She served as Acting President since February 5, 1999. Prior to being named to the position of Acting President, Dr. Slade served as Dean of the Jesse H. Jones School of Business at Texas Southern. She joined the TSU family in 1991 as Chair of the Accounting Department. Dr. Slade was named Dean of the School of Business in 1992.

As the Dean, she worked to build a legacy of pride based on the Texas Southern University motto of "Excellence in Achievement."

Dr. Slade received the Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Mississippi State University, the MPA degree in Accounting from Jackson State University, and the Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Slade has a head for business and a heart for education. Her forte is program development�her creative talents, keen eye for business, and genuine desire to provide her students with the best education possible. These characteristics led to the development of the Business Scholars Program, an innovative program designed to empower high school students through field trips, seminars/lectures given by corporate executives, that enable them to make wise and informed career decisions. It is the first program of its kind and has received national recognition.

The Jesse H. Jones School of Business at Texas Southern University has taken on the framework of a well-run business due to Dr. Slade's careful steering. Reward is a big part of the employees incentives. Through the creation of focused alliances with the corporate sector, she has developed a reward system for faculty, students, and staff based on productivity and quality. The methodology is simple, reward if given to those who are willing to go above and beyond the call of duty.

Dr. Slade's acheivements are fueled by her quest for excellence in her own life. She currently serves on the Quality Review Oversight Board for the State of Texas. Additionally, she serves on the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors of the Houston Area Urban League; the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement, Inc.; and the Board of Directors of the American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business, and a member of the Administrators of Accounting Programs Group. Her dedication to academia including publications in refereed journals and proceedings.

She has also received funding for proposals she has written aimed at increasing student access to higher education.

The new president has accomplished much in her life, but nothing gives her as much pride as being the mother to Al and Maurice, her two sons. She is a native of the State of Mississippi and the daughter of Reverend and Mrs. Percy Dean of Mississippi.

Dr. Slade enjoys signing in her church choir, playing bridge, backgammon, and tennis. She is a member of Windsor Village United Methodist Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the National Association of Black Accountants, the American Accounting Association, Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Fraternity, and the American Association of Women Accountants.
