Dodge Monaco Street Machine

I'm starting this build using the latest version of the often re released Dodge Monaco Police Car. Its a decent kit, but the molds are definitely showing their age. There are bad injector marks on the floor of the interior and sink marks on the body.

All the Police equipment is still in the kit, along with some so-so decals for the Hazzard County Sheriff department. I guess they were good for the time they were originally created in the 80's, but they are sorely lacking by today's standards.

The engine is the same old generic Mopar big block that was shared with several of the other AMT Mopar kits.

The suspension is the old molded in basic blobs that was put in a good many of the old AMT kits. I guess it is supposed to look somewhat like the real thing, but really doesn't even come close. Since I'm building this one for fun, I'm not going to source a better chassis with better details for the kit.

When I had my Fury and was driving it on a regular basis, I never really thought about changing anything on it, I was happy to have a decent car with working A/C to tel you the truth. It wasn't until I saw the Yodel Big American Dodge Monaco kit (pictured above) that I even though about making one into a street machine. I've had the idea in my head for a while, but never acted on it. Well, the time has come for me to change that and I'm making my version of a younger person's street machine.

The old 4 door cars were common and CHEAP when I had mine and would run like a raped ape! That would be right up a younger person's alley when they were looking for a first or second car.

This model will be built with common upgrades that would be easy to do in a drive way and make the car something other than the mundane 4 door family taxi that the car would have started out as.

Right now the only thing I have done is part of the interior, the rest of the pages are just the basic model template I made to save time.

I hope you enjoy the build and find something interesting to look at!

General Data:

1. This kit has been re-issued several times over the years and the molds are showing their age.
2. The kit still has the too wide steel rims.
3. All the late 60's, 70's, and early 80's style police equipment is still in the kit. Let's face it, some of the equipment didn't change much until the modern cellular age came about.

New updates in the Interior section.
