JOHN TROWBRIDGE
by Susan at Migration Steps
John was a
soldier in the War of 1812. He enlisted from his native place as a
substitute for [his brother-in-law] Foster Williams, Feb. 10, 1814, and served in
Capt. S. S. Allen's company, 9th U.S. Infantry, and was discharged at
Sackett's Harbour May 17, 1815. In 1817 he emigrated to Ohio and
became one of the early settlers in what was then Harrison township,
Preble county. He engaged in farming there and was a hunter and
woodsman of considerable fame. About 1832 he removed with his family to
a farm in Poplar Ridge, Darke county, in the same state, where he
resided the remainder of his life. He was supervisor of Van Buren
township for several years and many of the early roads were constructed
by him.
