Open/Join Group For best results before you open a group check your category (in the groups list) to make sure that there aren't too many other rooms with similar topics open at that time. Moderators can keep the group open even when the room owner is not there.
To join a group with the room's admin code open your PalList > "groups" button > Admin > Open or Join a Group as Admin > enter the Group Owner's name and the Admin Code > OK.
If you accidently enter the wrong code the room owner will be notified. You can keep multiple nicknames in a group to keep the visitor count up.
Use your hat to make sure the room stays in perfect harmony.

Change Banner Only admin can type in the banner. Put your mouse cursor in the banner > type your message > press enter and the banner is changed.
V7.0 To change the room banner go to the Admin Console > under "Modify Group Message" type in or alter the banner > OK.

Join Notifications *** Alberta226 has joined the group ***
*** Alberta226 has left the group ***
V7.0 To switch on join notifications go to the "Settings" menu (at the top of the group) > click on "tell me when pals join room".

Check Profiles The moderators in A-rated and R-rated groups must check the profiles for every user that enters the room to verify that they are old enough to participate in the group. When you have to explain to the users without their age in their profile how to change it you will soon find out this is time-consuming and annoying. Many admin have resorted to bouncing users immediately if their age is not displayed. This is not a solution either as PalTalk logs how many bounces an admin makes in a day and in total. If they feel there are too many bounces PalTalk might close the group down and prevent that user from opening another. It would be a great help if Paltalk would make the age field MANDATORY in the PalTalk registration form so that moderators wouldn't have to explain how to add it after the fact. Fill out this feedback form and tell them so:
PalTalk Beta - Bug Report Form
Complain to PalTalk until they make ages mandatory on the registration form.

Refresh Group To refresh a room go to the "Admin" menu > Administrative Console > "Remove All Hands" button > check "Red Dot Text" (so there's no typing in the room) > Red Dot yourself > click on "Refresh" and wait about two minutes > uncheck "Red Dot Text" and remove the dots from everyone in the room.

Red Dot None of the moderators like red dotting people within the group but it is necessary at times. Red Dotting will mute the user on mic. It will stay on the user for 24 hours but only in the group that they were dotted in. Usually it's used on room raiders that hijack the mic as a quick silencer. There's no point in letting a user go on talking if no one can make out what they are saying. If a user's sound is breaking up really bad Red Dot them. Then take back the mic and explain to that user how to fix their sound.
To red dot a user right-click on their nickname (in the group) > choose "Red Dot".
If you red dot someone they can continue to type only if "Red Dot Text" is enabled in the Administrative Console. You will see this message: "Paltalk: Redottext is currently on." when it's activated.
V7.0 Double-clicking on a nickname to red dot them still doesn't work.

Bounce Not every situation requires a quick bounce. Give everyone in the group a fair chance to participate. If a nickname is unacceptable to your group, warn the user to change their nickname before bouncing them. Bouncing a user will remove them from the group and they will not be able to return to the room for the next 24 hours.
To bounce a user from the group right-click on their nickname > choose "Bounce" > type a brief reason in the window (minimum one letter) > click the "Bounce" button.
A message like this will appear in the chat window "Alberta226 has been bounced from the group".
V7.0 To bounce you will need a minimum of 5 characters or numbers typed into the bounce window.

Ban Adding a user to the ban list helps keep unsavory users out permanently. Banned users PM to get their ban lifted, they get a new nickname, they reformat their computer and they reinstall PalTalk to try to get back into a group.
The only people that can ban users from a room is anyone logged on the Group Owner nickname. Group owners cannot be banned from their own room.
When PalTalk resets the servers banned nicknames may still be in the ban list but they may have disappeared. Room owners should keep a copy of their ban list to ban these users again because PalTalk re-sets bans every once in a while.

Catch Fly-bys We have all seen fly-bys. They are the PalTalk users that post a URL in a group and leave 2 seconds later. These fly-bys pose a security risk with their spam and they'll strike again and again. Here is my method to stop them:
First add the fly-by user to your PalList > type something in a PM to lure them back into the group (i.e. "Can you come back to the room? I just came in and didn't see your URL. Everyone was saying how neat your web page was.) > when they re-enter the room bounce them immediately > block the user and remove them from your PalList > warn everyone in the group not to click on that link.

Close Group To close a group go up to the "Admin" menu (at the top of the group) > Administrative Console > click on the "Close Room" button > Yes.

Create A Group Any PalTalk user can create a group, even if they have a black nickname. It's best to try to have consistent open times so users get into a pattern of showing up and it'll become a well known and popular room. It is up to every (main) room owner to make and enforce their own rules while respecting the PalTalk guidelines for their rating. A free group can hold up to 200 users at once.
If you want to you can open a Private (locked) Group. Keep in mind that a Private Group can hold only 10 people at one time so you may want to open a group that's publically accessible instead.
To create a Private Group login at the PalTalk Account Manager > click on "MY GROUP" > under "Group Administration & Security" enter a Lockword > press the "Modify" button (bottom of the page)
Now only the people who have the Lockword will be able to access your group.
How To Admin Your Own Group
Create Your Own Virtual Business Space On The Net

Appoint Admin Appoint many admin from different time zones to keep your room open and running smoothly. The users are the ones who make the room, admin and regulars alike, so they must have a say in how the room is run as well. Be open to their feedback. If a moderator wants to leave your group simply change the admin code and issue the new code to the remaining admin team.

Change/Retrieve Code You can get or change your group's admin code by logging on at the
PalTalk Account Manager > click on the "MY GROUP" link and retrieve it or enter a new admin code then press the "Modify" button (bottom of the page).
