Welcome to the PokéFAQs website!
This site is dedicated to providing quality information and services concerning the Pokémon video game for Nintendo™ Gameboy. Gold, Silver, and Crystal versions are the primary focus, but Red, Blue, and Yellow players will find stuff they can use too.
Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal is a very entertaining video game with many challenging obstacles to surmount and problems to overcome. Some can be relatively easy to solve while others prove difficult. The instructions that come with the game only cover the basics and leave the rest to the player.
Much of the assistance here will be in the form of FAQs, or Frequently Asked Questions. The information available on this site will hopefully help if you are truly stuck. Be aware that they may include "Spoilers" which may take some of the fun out of solving the problem yourself. Use these FAQs if you have run into a dead end and don't know what else to do.
Be welcome! Look around, check everything out. Things are always changing around here, so explore to your hearts content and visit back often!
FAQ News: February 11, 2003 The holidays have come and gone. I tried adding some Thanksgiving and Christmas humor, but I got no response at all. I got the message: "Just Pokémon please, don't try being funny." Gotcha. Well, since this is my site, I will continue to add things that amuse me and may just amuse you too.
Lots of updates being made to Pokémon RMT!, but it may be awhile before another update is ready for release. Since I've aquired Stadium and Stadium 2, there will be definite influences of this in the next RMT! version, as well as possible future Stadium FAQs on this site.
FAQ News: October 12, 2002 Halloween is fast approaching,
followed soon after by Thanksgiving and Christmas. You may see holiday related
themes here, I've always enjoyed this time of year. Since I can now create my
own Flash movies, you will see more and more of them. Several FAQs are now updated
with Flash animations that help illustrate key points better than animated .GIFs
(and take up far less bandwidth too).
Many bug reports are coming in for Pokémon RMT!. I am disturbed by the number
of them, but a new product always has kinks that have to be worked out. I don't
know when the next version will be available, but keep an eye out. Watch the
RMT! FAQ for known bugs.
FAQ News: September 27, 2002 Wow, it sure has been a long time since I last posted an important update here. It isn't that I haven't been working on FAQs or programmingas a matter of fact for the past six months I and several others have been working steadily on the program I mentioned in February. The most-excellent news is that it is now completed and available in the Downloads section! It's called Pokémon RMT!, and it helps you, the determined Pokémon trainer and manager, build powerful teams for tournament-style battles. I'm very proud of it, it's been a labor of love for almost a year.
The background sound is back by popular demand! Now, however, you can control whether you have to listen to it or not. This should make almost everyone happy.
You also may see some other incremental improvements start popping up around here since I just got Dreamweaver HTML editing software. There is so much fun stuff in there, I have to really control myself because I don't want to fatten up this site too much or Yahoo will shut it downtemporarilymore than it already does. Since I want this site to always be available to you guys (and gals), I have to keep the site somewhat lean and mean. (Of course, if anyone wants to pony up any real cash, I can upgrade the site package and get more space and bandwidth...)
FAQ News: February 23, 2002 Several improvements have been slowly implemented here. The latest Pokémon DV Calculator v1.7 was released about two months ago. It advances DV calculation by divining Stat Experience through use of Vitamins and can therefore determine DV's from Pokémon who have battled. Several FAQs have been added, including ones for tournament Team Creation. I am toying around with writing a program that would analyze your team and give suggestions for improvement, but I'm not sure if I can pull it off.
FAQ News: December 26, 2001 Christmas is over and I hope that many new people will be playing Pokémon this coming year. Plenty of new content is now available here. Added FAQs for Breeding Partners (lists what Pokémon can breed and with whom), Baby Moves (all the non-level-up moves that are inheritable by offspring), Pokémon text descriptions for R/B/Y/G/S/C. Added Base XP data to the Base/Max Stats FAQ for calculating experience points for defeated Pokémon. A new picture Gallery has original Apricorn pictures (created from my overly-vivid imagination). After this burst of creativeness, I'm exhausted and am taking a needed hiatus.
FAQ News: December 15, 2001 Released the Pokémon DV Calculator v1.5. This latest version now supports both R/B/Y versions as well as G/S/C. The interface has been cleaned up a little with more popup list boxes. It also rates the Pokémon's genes with a letter grade, making it easier to evaluate them. Verbose instructions are now available from the menu. Available in the Downloads section, get your copy today!
FAQ News: December 1, 2001 Released the Pokémon DV Calculator v1.01. Makes it very easy to calculate any Pokémon's genes much sooner than level 50 or 100. Developed and written by me to assist everyone figuring out their Pokémon's abilities. Available in the Downloads section free of charge. What we won't do here at PokéFAQs to help out our visitors! Working on the next version that will support Red/Blue/Yellow users.
FAQ News: October 27, 2001 Did some further reorganization of content and the interface. FAQs now have its own separate selection page. Added several FAQs on such topics as Hidden Power, a Binary Primer for those visitors who don't know binary numbers, and HM/TM lists. Added a cartoon-episode guide that will be an ongoing project. Home page now includes a drop-box to answers of commonly-asked questions. Added a book review section.
FAQ News: September 28, 2001 Continuing overhaul of FAQ pages. Reducing page and graphic sizes to accommodate people with slower connections. Lots of layout editing and streamlining, including testing across both leading Microsoft and Netscape browsers.
FAQ News: September 14, 2001 Overhauled the site using FrontPage 2000. Improved interface, color schemes, and layout. Updated miscellaneous FAQs. Base/Max Stats FAQ is now online.
FAQ News: September 3, 2001 Completed Pokémon Genes FAQ. It covers every aspect of genes (DV's), including in-depth descriptions, methods of calculation and projection, and many examples.
FAQ News: August 25, 2001 Completed analysis of effectiveness for all Pokéballs. Used an emulator and plenty of patience. I have updated the Legendary Dog FAQ and included my results. There were some surprises, such as standard Pokéballs being just as effective as Ultra Balls, and Fast Balls being effective contrary to other info I have read on other sites.
FAQ News: August 23, 2001 I have been doing some testing with Pokémon Crystal and have uncovered some inconsistencies with information in my Legendary Dogs FAQ, specifically with using Fast Balls. Previously I have recommended against using Fast Balls based on my own experience and another sites information. This may be in error. I need to do further testing before coming to clear conclusions, however. It may be that Crystal behaves differently than Gold or Silver as far as capturing the Legendary Dogs goes.
