Worship

The Rectorial Benefice of Dolgellau is a parish of the Church in Wales. Our worship centres around the Eucharist, which is celebrated in all five churches almost every Sunday (except in Brithdir and Llanfachreth on the first Sunday of the month).

For a list of services in the Parish, click here.

We also have a weekly celebration of the Eucharist in St Mary's Church, Dolgellau at 10.30a.m. on Thursdays and on feast days.

The Eucharist is where we come together as a congregation, a community, to worship God, to receive his sacrament and to experience communion with one another and with God.

The congregations in Dolgellau, Llanfachreth and Bryncoedifor use the Alternative Order of Service for the Eucharist, Brithdir and Llanelltyd use the 1984 Church in Wales Book of Common Prayer.

On weekdays the offices of Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer are said in St Mary's, Dolgellau at 8.30a.m. and 5.00p.m. respectively. These services are open to everyone.

Like most parishes in the Bangor Diocese our congregations consist both of first language English speakers and first language Welsh speakers. This means that in most of our Churches the services are bilingual to offer everyone the chance to worship in their preferred language. However, due to the linguistic make-up of the congregations, services in Llanelltyd and Brithdir are usually all in English and services in Llanfachreth are usually all in Welsh. Because of the presence of a first language Dutch speaking curate the offices on Wednesday are now in Dutch.

All of these services are open to everyone to attend.

The Chi Rho is one of the most ancient "sacred monograms" of Christ. They were developed by early Christians as a secret sign of their faith. This monogram is composed of the first two Greek letters of the word "Christ" (XPICTOC). The Chi Rho has many variations, including a form in which a single stroke crosses the downstroke of the "P", forming a cross, and another in which the "P" is made to look like a shepherd's crook, reminding us that Jesus is the Good Shepherd.

The Blessed Sacrament is reserved in St. Mary's as a focus for our worship and for the needs of the sick and housebound.

Please let the parish clergy know of anyone who would like to receive Holy Communion at home or in hospital.

Confessions can be arranged by appointment.
