The Stamps & Philately of Dominica
Dominica was visited by Christopher Columbus in 1493. Colonization was attempted by the French and the British during the 18th century, becoming a British Crown Colony in 1805. It was part of the Federation of the West Indies from 1958 to 1962 and an independent republic within the Commonwealth in 1978. The first postage stamps were issued for the colony in 1874.
