"H.E. Harris & Company is a driving force in the collector's markets today because of the vision of its founder, Henry Ellis Harris. Mr. Harris was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1902. His entrepreneurial talent showed itself early, when, at only 8 years old, he was a skilled door-to-door salesman in his parents' Norfolk, Virginia neighborhood. It wouldn't be much longer until Henry found his true career path. In 1910 he discovered his grandfather's stamp album and got bitten by the collector's bug. By 1916 he was a seasoned collector and had founded H.E. Harris & Company by placing a free ad in the Washington Post. His idea to sell stamps with no risk, on approval was novel and won him many customers. Before his 16th birthday, he had $200 in the bank. ...

Mr. Harris knew that the benefits of coin and stamp collecting were threefold: educational, historical and financial. He made it his life's work to bring knowledge of other times and cultures to the American people."
