Jas is one of six artists
featured in the exhibition Why Can't Things Stay the Same? Transitions
and Transformations in Art Making at the Surrey Art Gallery. Jas will
be represented by 10 works. The earliest, the 1972 serigraph entitled Ch'ien (cc), the first work acquired by the Surrey Art Gallery
for its Municipal Collection. It is a mandala with the I Ching
trigram (representing the Creative) at its centre. Other works included
in the exhibition were selected to represent Jas' rubberstamp art, artistamps,
artist's books, computer art, computer prints and modular works created
between 1972 and 1996.

Jas presents his 1996 Annual
Report (cc) on the progress of his Registered Projects with The Specific
Research Institute, of which he is a Senior Fellow.

One of Jas' falling trees from the Artistamp sheet "Rainforests of
the Mind" is reproduced in the Polish language ecology magazine ZIELONE

Cyberspace
Jas accepts an invitation to become an honorary member of the
Eclectic Artists' Society. This Society is made up of artists
who take pride in their work and in the way their work is presented in the
information medium. Jas' acceptance of membership means that JCM's Gallery
Mraur is now a stop on the Society's 'ring' of web sites.

Myanmar as seen from abroad at the eve of Visit Myanmar Year.
Included in the publication is a reproduction of Jas' Rainforest of the
Mind artistamp sheet. A copy of the publication is on file.

Jas' participates in the 12th HypArt Project at
CAGE. The theme of this project is Sex in the Internet - What is
Cybersex? Is there anything more out there than the #####th x-rated WWW-site?

San Francisco
Jas attends the opening of his exhibition Jas. W.
Felter - Artistamp Activist, at the Stamp Art Gallery in San
Francisco on Saturday, October 5th. The exhibition features Felter's Mraur
Glyph Stamps. During the opening two new publications are launched: first
The Collected Artistamp Writings of Jas. W. Felter (published by
the Gallery; illustrated, with an introduction by John Held, Jr.) and second,
Jas' signed, limited edition CODEX ALMADA - A Mraurovian Manuscript
. (This Manuscript is currently featured in Gallery Mraur's Room 3
(cc) here
at JCM.) The Stamp Art Gallery also introduces a new rubberstamp by Jas
depicting the matrix for creating all of the glyphs of Mraur.

Copenhagen
Jas's Ray Johnson Commemorative Artistamp sheet
is included in Post Denmark's Mail Art exhibition at Post
Denmark Headquarters. Upon conclusion of this presentation the exhibition
is being sent to post offices throughout Denmark and then in the course of
1997, handed over to Post Denmark's museum. The exhibition is part of
Copenhagen's 1996 European Cultural Capital activities.

Montréal
Jas is a Conference Presenter at the M.I.M. 96 - Multimedia
Creator's Exchange. The event is held in the Café Électronique de
Montréal at Cité des arts et des nouvelles technologies de
Montréal. Felter presents his WEB Site live and discusses its'
development, his art and the artistamps and cyberstamps in general.

Jas is a juror for the Web d'Or award
for the top WWW sites entered in the competition at M.I.M. 96 - Marché
International Multimédia International Market. The Winner of the 1996
Web d'Or is Web Culture, the first server established by
