A small explanation
For
twenty-five years I have been organising the annual Hydra Rebetiko Gathering on
the Greek island of Hydra.

In the
early days, as well as making music we organised academic conferences on the
subject of Rebetiko. These were originally organised under the aegis of the
London-based Institute of Rebetology.
I have
also been engaged in ethnomusicological studies at the School of Oriental and
African Studies in London – including Rebetiko studies – and where I am also
the organiser of the SOAS Rebetiko Band.
Many
interesting papers have been produced over the years, as well as accompanying
research materials.
For a
while those files were lost on a disappeared hard drive. However, in mid-2022
they reappeared, and hence I have decided to continue the editing and publish
the papers as a printed book.
The editing
process has now been completed. The book has now been published in a printed
volume that is available from bookshops and can also be purchased on-line.
The chapters
of the book are also published on this present website for those who prefer to
read on-line.
It is a
