Mr. Border Slime

Besu's Dragon Quest Slime Shrine

Doujinshi can basically be described as fan-made comic books. The quality varies greatly, and the content is as diverse as the human imagination. Many doujinshi are hentai in nature, but I prefer to collect the more innocent variety. ^^ All of my dj are bought of off eBay.

Do you have a page featuring your Dragon Quest doujinshi collection? If so, please let me know so that I may link to your page.

I have an entire page devoted to the wonderful work of the Astro Boys doujinshi circle.

The most recent additions are at the top of the page.

Ikkaku Senkin
Name Ikkaku Senkin: Book of the Game
Release date 1990
Author/Circle Atou Manashi and Nakamura Yuuko
Description "Oversized" doujinshi compared to most; it's classified as a B5, roughly the size of a magazine. The art quality is simply breathtaking in this 54 page doujinshi. It includes stories, 4Koma strips, and the back features single pages devoted to different games like DQ3, Final Fantasy 3, and even Rockman.

Aao! 1/2
Name Aao! 1/2
Release date 1-13-1991
Author/Circle FFF Company
Description Wow! This is a monstrous 106 DQIV-only doujinshi. It concentrates on my three favorite characters, too - male hero, Alena, and Cristo. As you can see on the cover, most of the artwork is very true to Akira Toriyama's character work. Aao! 1/2 is a high-quality doujinshi in every way.

Wani 2
Name Wani 2, volume 14
Release date 8-12-1990
Author/Circle Takumi Tazizawa and Koji Aoi?
Description A fun 48-page doujinshi. It has a number of short stories, most involving the female hero, Alena, and Cristo. Most interestingly, the single-page illustrations seem to focus more on the pairing of Krift and Manya (Cristo and Mara).

Arena Connection 2
Name Arena Connection 2
Release date 8-16-1991
Author/Circle Studio Atrandom
Description Just as with the other Arena Connection dj listed on this page, the art is excellent. This particular issue is also longer - 50 pages - and has more substance. The first story is from DQIV and tells about when the Hero meets Mara and Nara; it adds a funny scene at the Inn that night when the blushing hero ends up sleeping in a bed with a gypsy sister on each side of him. The second story is about the Minalvaton Saga (still have no clue what this is) and the last story is about Alena, Cristo, and Brey.

 Rakkii 2 Rakkii 2 back
Name Rakkii 2
Release date 8-16-1991
Author/Circle Pao Pao
Description This is a lovely doujinshi about DQIV, with an additional story on DQII. There are also individual pages in watercolor focusing on different characters.

Famicom Kids 2
Name Famicom Kids 2
Release date 8-1990
Author/Circle Satomi Sonahama
Description This is a massive doujinshi with great artwork. It focuses on DQIV, but also has stories/pages devoted to Mother, Wizardry 1-3, Final Fantasy 3, and Dragon Quest 3.

Final Fantasy 3 cover
Name Yuubae o Machi na ga
Release date ?
Author/Circle ?
Description A 34 page doujinshi with stories on Final Fantasy 3, Dragon Quest IV, Final Fantasy 2, and Wizardry. The artwork is nice, but the stories are quite short.

Famicom Book Famicom Book FF2 back cover
Name Famicom Book
Release date 8-13-1989
Author/Circle Persona-Magic
Description A 70-page doujinshi featuring short sections on DQ2 and 3, and one illustration of the DQ4 hero. The other 2/3 of the dj is a mystery to me because I can't identify the Famicom games; the art is excellent, though.

DQ3 only
Name ?
Release date 5-1-1997
Author/Circle Rin Mikawa and Ruw Yatsurugi
Description A 50 page "Dragon Quest 3 Only" book. Most of the artwork is as shown on the cover above, with the characters just having one eye. o_0 I couldn't follow the story well.

Death Palace Death Palace title/back
Name Death Palace
Release date 8-20-1995
Author/Circle Okuzuke
Description Lovely 34 page dj about Arena and Krift. The artwork has clean, clear lines. Page 20-30 is an all-Japanese text story, with the only picture being Alena in a wedding gown. Along with this doujinshi is a small information booklet about other this doujinshi and others the circle has done.

Tamu 2 Doramu
Name Tamu 2 Doramu
Release date 5-5-1992
Author/Circle Ninjin Club / Tamu 2
Description The best way to describe this would be as a collection of several Famicom classics. Even though Alena is on the cover, most of the material inside is a nice Final Fantasy 3 story with chocobos, black wizards, and even a slime at the end. It has a scattering of nice FFIV artwork of Rydia and Edge and Palom and Porom (first Palom and Porom fan art I've seen). There is even a Legend of Zelda story inside. One of the more interesting things about this dj is that it came with about 5 ad sheets tucked inside it for a Final Fantasy 3 doujinshi; the fact that this dj is 10 years old and still has these ads included says a lot about it's condition.

Yoo-Hoo Yoo-Hoo back
Name Yoo-Hoo
Release date 7-26-1992
Author/Circle R-Project
Description Very nice all-Dragon Quest book. The main focus is DQIV, but it has some DQ1 and 3 pages, too. Artwork is of a good quality, as shown on the cover.

Slime
Name Slime
Release date 1994
Author/Circle Tsu-na Tomoko Mikeno
Description This is a DQ 4 and 5 only book. It consists of a number of hilarious, easy-to-follow stories. The slime on the cover gets horribly abused by the heroes - both Alena and the horse step on him - but the slime still travels along with them later to meet Master Dragon. Another hilarious story involves Saro becoming plushy-size and sleeping beside Rosa on her pillow; Rosa does not sleep well, and poor chibi-Saro gets pummeled, kicked, and generally battered. Overall, a very cute 44 page doujinshi.

Name Arena Connection, book 25
Release date 7-22-1990
Author/Circle Studio Atrandom
Description As the back cover states, this doujinshi features DQII, DQIV, and the Minelvatons Saga (if you know what that is, please let me know). The art is very high quality, but the doujinshi is only 22 pages long.

Cover
Name ?
Release date 1-19-1992
Author/Circle Aqua/Yuto Takanori
Description An all-DQ4 doujinshi with two stories involving a dragon; they meet the dragon (Master Dragon?) in the first one, and fight the dragon in the second story. The art is okay. There are many pages of Japanese text at the back of this 34 page doujinshi.

Together vol 1 Together back
Name Together Vol. 1
Release date 11-21-1993
Author/Circle ?
Description This *massive* doujinshi is 97 pages of well-orangized, quality artwork for DQ 1-5. Very nice overall.

DraQue IV
Name DraQue IV
Release date 3-18-1990
Author/Circle ?
Description This is a short dj with a mysterious soldier with long black hair as the main character. The content is most certainly shounen-ai as this character snuggles Cristo and at the end is kissing the hero while they are in bed together. o_0

Flying Corp
Name Dragon Quest & the Big Adventure of Dai: Flying Corp
Release date 11-23-1992?
Author/Circle Akiho Kanase (Kanazawa Magical Knights)
Description This 82 page doujinshi mainly features a DQIV story involving Cristo and Alena, along with two short stories about Dai and DQ3 characters. The art is rather super-deformed, but cute for the most part - I just don't like how they drew the eyes. ^^

1234 1234 back
Name 1234 Dragon Quest part 3
Release date 1991
Author/Circle ? - many artists
Description As the title says, this has artwork for the first four DQ games, but the focus is on DQ 3 and 4. The art is very good all-around, too. There is a lengthy section towards the back of artists' commentaries.
