192. James ANDERSON

A Revolutionary War soldier from Roane County, North Carolina.Came to Kentucky in 1797 or 1798. He applied for apension(S12950) in 1833 in Christian County, KY.According to a letter from Aden Higgins to Dr. A. N. Anderson,III dtd 3/5/1987, Mr. Higgins believes, based upon familystories, that James A. Anderson (b-1748) is buried on the hillwhere the TV 43 antenna is located. "I remember my Aunt PaulineWitty pointing out a hill on the Old Madisonville Rd and sayinghe was buried there. I have looked on another hill, too, nearbywhere there is an Armstrong Cemetary. I found no Andersongraves."


224. Martin MARTIN

:From: Glenn Martin Princeton Ky

Martin enlisted during 1777 or 1778, while residing in Ninety Six District(or Laurens Distri ct), under Capt. Richard Doggett (or Dogwood) and Col.William Henderson. He served in both th e 1st and 6th Regiments during the period from 23 March 1776 to July 1781. He was in the bat tle at Stono and at the siege of Savannah. He was wounded at the Battle of Brandywine. Afte r being taken prisoner at the fall of Charleston, he was held for several weeks before escapi ng.

Martin's obituary in the Greenville Mountaineer newspaper:

"Another relic of the Revolution gone! Died in the vicinity of the Cowpens Battleground on th e 24th ult., after a protracted illness of several weeks, Mr. Martin Martin, aged about 85 ye ars. The departed entered the regular service in the early part of the War of the Revolutio n and fought valiantly in several battles under the banner of his country until the close o f thesame, in one of which he received a deep wound from a British bayonet---not inthe bac k but in the face, the marks there-of attending him to his grave. He was, strictly speaking , an honest man, a good citizen, a kind neighbor, and a faithful friend. He lived and died wi thout an enemy and has left an extensive train offriends and relatives to mourn his exit."
