juggernaut

This is a word, which is being used quite often these days. Does this word look a bit unfamiliar to you? No problem....Lord Vishnu will help us......
Wondering????  How Lord Vishnu can come to our "word of the day"? Because this  word is patented to him.....(-;

We all know Lord Vishnu is also called as Jagannath [Jagat(world) +nath(lord)]. Is the word Jagannath sounding similar to juggernaut? Yes..,it is.

During religious rites the idol of lord Vishnu is hauled along on a large car. Some times the excited worshippers used to throw themselves under the wheels and they crushed themselves.

Now a days juggernaut is used to represent an irresistible force. In other words, a massive inexorable force that seems to crush everything in its way.

Usage :    Indians couldn't stop Australian juggernaut in World cup finals.

As we all know, English is a very flexible language that plethora of words entered into English from many other languages. Greek,Latin,German...etc, Our Indian languages are no less in contributing. Hindi, Sanskrit, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada.. etc, all contributed somehow or the other. This very word has come from Sanskrit. We'll be exploring many of them in the coming days.
