It's such a fine line between a good man and a bad...
Jekyll and Hyde, if asked what my second favorite musical was, I would probably have to say this. I own a DVD of a filming of the musical that was done on stage in New York with David Hasselhoff (lol). It was quite an experience, though, with some really awesome music coming out of it. You've probably heard of the basic story, the kindly Doctor Jekyll's father is feeble and in some sort of uncurable comma. Jekyll has gone mad with trying to find some way to help him, but thinks that he has the solution. He asks the local hospital board of some London Hospital for a patient to try his cure on but he is denied. Jekyll then goes to the drastic step of trying it out on himself, but it goes horribly wrong and he brings out a split personality known as Mr. Hyde who is purely evil. This leads Jekyll to lock himself into his study to try and contain the murderous Mr. Hyde who has been extractcing revenge for Jekyll by killing the Hospital board. Jekyll's fiancee, Ema, becomes incredibly worried and refuses to give up on the disturbed doctor as all of her friends tell her to. Also in Jekyll's life is a prostitute who he met at his bachelor party, Lucy. His relationship with her is purely professional, though, as he wanted to help her out. Obvously the story turns to tragedy with poor Jekyll unable to control his dark side.
I Need to Know - My favorite song to sing and listen to in the musical. Not in all versions though. It's incredible.
Take Me As I Am - The great duet of Emma and Jekyll about their love. Truely lovely.
Good and Evil - The song that Lucy sings about being a prostitue. Hahah. Also not in all versions.
This is the Moment - Jason's senior spotlight solo song, and a great one at that as Jekyll hopes his potion works.
Alive - The evil song of Hyde coming into being.
Someone Like You - The sad song of Lucy, truely an awesome song though, such great emotion.
A New Life - Lucy's hope at a new life thanks to Jekyll's kindness.
Sympathy Tenderness reprise - Hard to find since its not an actual song, the chilling sounds of Hyde killing in it.
The Confrontation - Jekyll and Hyde face each other in a multiple personality clash.
No day but today
RENT, the modern American musical that takes place in the greatest city in the world, New York, at the turn of the millenium. There are many characters in this play, the first two introduced are the roomates Mark the filmmaker, and Roger the musician. Mark recently got dumped by his hot lover, Maureen, who is now dating JoAnne, a woman. Outside Collins, another character, just got mugged and is comforted by Angel, a cross dressing street performer, both are HIV+. Roger is in a depressed state because of the suicide of his girlfriend six months prior who took her own life upon learning that she had AIDS. Mark and Roger's ex-roomate, Benny, has become a member of corporate America and is trying to evict a bunch of homeless people from a nearby lot. Maureen calls Mark, telling him that she needs help with the audio equipment, when he gets there, he finds that Maureen sent her new girlfriend, JoAnne to try and figure it out. The two work through their discomfort and find a connection in what they hate about Maureen. Meanwhile Roger tries to write a song that will make him famous and leave behind some kind of legacy. He's interrupted by a shivering Mimi at his door who he finds an immediate attraction to. Christmas comes and Collins and Angel, Roger and Mimi, and Maureen and JoAnne are all together but the couples go through some rocky water. They find how hard it is to be living in America at the end of the Millenium.
One Song Glory - My personal favorite, moving song about leaving behind a legacy of some sort by Roger.
Light My Candle - The love song between Roger and Mimi. Quite modern.
Tango Maureen - The akward duet of Mark and JoAnne which is truely awesome.
Out Tonight - Hot Maureen sings this little number about being young and hot.
Christmas Bells - A medley of christmas songs with a modern twist.
I Should Tell You - Roger and Mimi descover that their both HIV+, something they were anxious to reveal.
Seasons of Love - A well known song from the musical about love all throughout the year.
Take Me or Leave Me - The break up of Maureen and JoAnne as these two head strong characters clash.
Goodbye Love - The terribly sad song of one of the characters dying and saying goodbye.
