Shorewalk Women’s Coffee

September coffee will be held on September 22 at 10 a.m. in the club house.  Pool is closed, boating season shortened with algae and summer is ending.  Come to the coffee to get acquainted and meet new friends for the long winter season.  The November and December coffees are canceled due to holidays but a special holiday coffee will be held with date to be announced at a later time.  All women residing in Shorewalk are invited to attend. Please register your e-mail address with Peggy McLahlan at [email protected] in order that you may be notified of special dates. This is an opportunity to get acquainted with  your neighbor and meet new friends.  Look forward to seeing you there.

Book Club

For a real change of pace, the book for September  was “Drowning Ruth” written by Christina Schwarz.  It had a lot of twists and turns. 

The book “The Flame Trees of Thika,  memories of a African childhood” by Elspeth Huxley was originally scheduled but due to difficulty in locating the book it was canceled.   The Indianapolis Public Library now has copies and some of the book club members had read the book and wanted to proceed with the discussion so it is on the schedule again for October.  The book is considered by some to be a classic so we are anxious to have it back on the list for October. Now readers are having difficulty getting the book again so an alternate book has been chosen to accompany Flame Trees, "Can't Wait to Get to Heaven" by Fannie Flag.  Read one or both but plan on attending the book club on October 13th.  In other words, there are two books for October.  Choose which book you would like to read or read both.

November’s book is “Middlesex” by Jeffrey Eugenides.  One of the greatest pleasures of joining a book club is the variety and the opportunity to talk about an author or a book and enjoy other people’s insights and opinions.   The book appears to be very different. The book for December is "Promise Not to Tell" by Jennifer McMann.

A trip to Indianapolis Public Library, Border’s Book Store, Half Price Books and Barnes and Noble Book Store will convince you of the pleasure of reading.  An online option is www.moreknowledgeink.com 

Try to join us on the second Saturday of each month at ten a.m. in the club house for a book discussion.

Several comments have been made about something for men and/or both men and women in Shorewalk. Some suggestions have been a shuffle board court painted on the asphalt in the club house parking lot, a horseshoe pit on the grounds near the clubhouse and volleyball court. September 22nd,  Shorewalk Women’s Coffee 10 a.m., Saturday, in club house.  Shorewalk Women’s Coffee is always held on the fourth Saturday of the month unless it falls on a holiday.

Game Night An alternative to game night would be an afternoon get together. More later. Let us hear what you want.

October 13  – Book Club  Saturday, 10 a.m.  in the club house. Book club is held the second Saturday of the month.
