I have admired the USA Miniature Horses for years but have never seen anything other than the stocky, shaggy ponies in NZ. Then some friends of mine became involved in breeding miniatures and I discovered that NZ had come a long way with improving the quality of theses delightful equine creatures. I have been involved with horses most of my life and spent my teenage years competing in games, show jumping, eventing and dressage in Southland. We moved North in 1983 and 15 years ago I started breeding Quarter Horses. We spent a number of years competing in Western Shows and the andrenelin rushing sport of cutting.

Late in 2007 I decided to purchase a mini as a pet,but as we all know, it never stops there. It didn't take me long to realise that I would love to have more of these adorable horses as I was so taken with their friendliness and biddable natures. With a huge amount of help from Brigid Banas, I have started to set myself up with a small stud farm in Tauranga, New Zealand and have managed to purchase some lovely stock (AMHA and NZMHA) that have great lines in their pedigrees. Pedigrees are something I am very interested in, probably coming from my many years of breeding pedigree dogs.

We breed Border Collies and Pomeranainas and you might like to vist our website at Heidesa Kennels. See link above.
Both hubby John and myself travel all over the country side competing in dog obedience competition and have trained and bred many Obedience Champions. Both of us are senior obedience judges and have been for over 25 years. I served as a Dog Training Zone Representative (covering the central North Island)  for 4 years and was then elected to be the Dog Training Chairperson for the entire country. That position placed me on the NZ Kennel Club Executive Council for a further two years, where I learnt a tremendous amount about the administration of the NZ Kennel Club.

With the top quality imported lines coming into NZ from the United States, I can see exciting times ahead for the NZ miniature breeding industry and I hope to be able to play a small part in contributing to the improvement of these wonderful little horses. Please check back to see what new additions we add to our miniature horse world.
