Maniac Butcher has been around for many years now, I was very surprised to read that this Czech horde is about to bury the hatchet, and kick back listening to old recordings. It is understandable that in regards of the current pathetic scene infested by weak gothic influences and popular gay themes provided by a bunch of shinny happy kids, that sooner or later the old school bands might draw back. The statement that there is no more place for bands like Maniac Butcher is not much to my liking, for there are still some who have not changed their allegiance. Those are the ones who will miss the true bands. Can anyone name a band where you could say:" Hey the new album is out, I will get it without hesitation, because they will never betray their style!"....think about it and read the following short interview, which was never intended to be one...
1. SHETAIT: Your lyrics have literally drawn a crimson tail behind every album. The essence of blood is certainly a very powerful key, which nourishes not just unnatural hatred but is also capable of soothing wounds. What is your true face like, behind the mask which we must wear during our unwanted interaction with society? What do your eyes truely see regarding the place you shall forever call home?
BARBARUD: Here you probably ask if I really stand behind my lyrics. Yes, my lyrics are about my thoughts, ideas, hate. Of course, I don't kill my enemies coz' it would be pretty stupid to spend the rest of my life in jail. I just do that what is the best for me. What is good for me, that good is.
2. SHETAIT: Vast forests, ruins, deserted landscapes and everyone, being it a trendy fuck or a blind human being claims to enjoy the visit of such places. Would you agree that these places certainly hold a specific touch and certain beauty, but are unneccessary to witness the union of the worlds? It is merely the atmosphere which blends in, but only the true capability to understand is able to unlock the mental portal.
BARBARUD: Some special places, special atmosphere...Hmmm, it can be good inspiration... but I do not care about. Forest begins 100 meters behind my house but I spend most of my time at home with my music and PC. You spoke also about two worlds. Hmm, sorry, by my opinion there is only one world. There is no life after death. Death is end of all. No spirit without body...
3. SHETAIT: What is a king without a throne?
BARBARUD: Uhh, seems I am stupid. But I really don't understand what you ask about.
4. SHETAIT: Extreme music for extreme individuals is no longer adequate. Being raped by numerous people who have nothing better to do than to pave their own road towards destruction, there are still some who carved the spirit deep into their hearts. What has forged your "heart" and "will" back then to manifest your utmost thoughts in the superior language of "music"? They must be incredibly strong and proud to turn your back on what you have done...
BARBARUD: Hmm, I am afraid our time is out. There is no more place for bands like Maniac Butcher on the scene. We grew up on 80ies thrash 'n' heavy bands. And today's generation grew up on Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir. Maybe we and them can love same music but we would feel it by different way. I do not know how are you old, how long you are into Metal music...maybe you know what I speak. Well, sure fact is that I will always listen to my old recordings and feel big pleasure...
...and so will I. Darkest and deepest regards go out to the two great Kings of Czech Black Metal....
