Well, does this interview really need an introduction? Followers of symphonic, shiny happy musical excrements should not read on. Gay lovers who think that the great scandinavian forefathers are still into black metal should turn around and await the axe in their back. Hordes like Azaghal will violently twist the knife in your guts.
1. SHETAIT: The blaspheming spirit of true black metal accompanies Azaghal. Is it something that has lead you to extreme music?
Narqath: I have been to extreme music since I was under 10 years old, I've never listened to any other type of music than metal until just now during the last few years I have discovered some great non-metal bands. The bands that lead me to extreme metal were W.A.S.P., Mercyful Fate / King Diamond, Iron Maiden and so forth... The biggest influence (music wise) to Azaghal has undeniably been the early 90s norsescene & some old thrash bands (which I guess can be heard in our musical terror). So it really wasn't the blashemous spirit of the music, which of course is essential for black metal, but for me personally I like cold, misanthropic and suicidal atmospheres in music the most.
2. SHETAIT: Referring to "The Nine Circles of Hell" which deals strictly with anti-christian believes. What is expressed in lyrics and music often remain to be simply words, the days of terror are mostly over. Are you the type of individual who says "I don't kill someone because I am afraid of punishment"? Or do you see the world grovelling 'neath your throne, and patiently gaze ahead because you know their end is coming?
Narqath: If I would intend to kill someone I would do it so that I wouldn't get caught. I don't see a point in spending some 16 years in jail just for killing some worthless worm.
The basic theme behind Azaghal is not only anti-christian, it's anti-human. To me the rest of humans are just as worthless as the christians.. But I wouldn't say that I "gaze around from my throne" to humans, since I simply do not care about them. Death to humanity.
3. SHETAIT: Would you play at Anti-Drug or any beneficial concerts in general?
Narqath: Definetly not at anti-drug festival atleast hehe..
4. SHETAIT: In times of utmost need, when the tides of life flow in silent crimson streams does it satisfy the hunger? Does it lead to another reality / world?
Narqath: I pretty much live in my own twisted(?) world all time, I try to concern my self as little as possible with mortal problems or regular everyday life. And at the moment I must say that I am shocked at how satisfied I am with my life at the moment.
5. SHETAIT: Placing yourself above the falsity of God and the weakness of blind obidience, what does your "crown" and "throne" look like?
Narqath: Crown is the full-wintermoon, casting it's pale shadow over the world. Throne can be a mere rock somewhere in the middle of a forest.
...mighty hails to Narqath and Azaghal for following the true path of black metal. A band worth supporting!
