Old Gallop Canal, looking east
Gallop Canal was part of the Williamburg canals built after 1845 to by-pass several rapids between Prescott and Iroquois (Farran's Point, Rapid Point, Iroquois and Cardinal Rapids). In this section intensive digging was required as the canal went through a set of small hills. The hill on the right was to protect the canal from floods of the St. Lawrence.
