Old Coteau du Lac Locks, looking west
Coteau du Lac is the oldest lock system on the St. Lawrence and was built in 1783 by the British. It was approximately 270 meters long 2.1 meters wide and 0.75 meters deep. It was used to bypass Coteau Rapids. Shown on this picture is what's left of the lock today as well as a reconstruction of a river barge of that era (Durham barge).
