It is Fate ---------- Disclaimer: I don’t own digimon and I never thought I did. Author’s Note: Just a cute fic that I thought of. E-mail me at digimon_mattlover@hotmail.com ********************************* It is Fate Part 1 *I used to be obsessed with Sora Takenouchi. I love the way her hair sits on her shoulders and the way she smiles all the time. It wasn’t the kind of obsession where I would stalk her on her dates with Tai or leave her weird notes. No, it wasn’t anything like that. I didn’t even try to know everything about her such as her favorite animal or what she looks like in a towel. It wasn’t that kind of obsession. I more thought about her all the time in the sense of wishing I was with her.* I walk towards school, looking both ways as I cross the street. *It’s strange. I never thought I would be with her, and I still believe that today because I’m not. She hangs out with the popular people because she is dating Tai. Tai is the soccer star of the boys team while Sora is the school’s tennis champion. They both hang out with their popular groups who all sit together at lunch everyday at the same table. I don’t hang out with them anymore. After Tai began dating her, I hung more and more with my band members to the point where we never talk anymore. We sit together at a table during lunch. Izzy has his group of friends too. In our school, they are known as the computer geeks. Although most of the popular group calls them that, Sora and Tai don’t. I don’t see much of Joe since he went to college this year, and same with Mimi because she lives in New York. T.K. and Kari just began high school this year. They still hang around with their Digidestined friends while us older kids don’t. We just drifted apart.* I head into the building that is filled with people. I look over at Sora who is making out with Tai. *It’s her eighteenth birthday today. There is this huge party that’s happening tonight in one of the fields outside of town. I think I’ll go, but it isn’t because I am obsessed with Sora. Actually, I haven’t been obsessed with Sora since last year. After I met Angelica Roasi, my life changed for the better. She was the new girl who didn’t know very many people. The popular group dissed her because she wears glasses. She isn’t into computers or any other groups that are in my school. She is into music like me. Immediately, my friends and I took a liking to her. She is now lead singer with me in our band. Most people call Angelica, Angel, because of the way her hair is golden blonde and how it hangs almost to her butt, wavy and long. I call her by her full name, the only time calling her otherwise is when we are in bed together, but that is more referring her to as an angel, not really as her nick name.* I almost turn to wish Sora a happy birthday, but instead I go to my locker. *She doesn't want to be seen with me.* “Morning Matt,” Angelica says with a smile as she approaches me. I give her a quick kiss on the cheek and say, “Morning to you too.” She smiles at me as I turn back to get my stuff out of my locker. I can’t help but look back at her blue eyes that are similar to mine, but hidden a bit by her thin glass lenses. Her glasses almost make her prettier though, and I wouldn’t want her to change her for anybody else. Her smile is innocent and beautiful. “So, why are you so happy this morning?” I ask as I shut my locker. “I know it is your friend Sora’s birthday and I think we should go to that party,” Angelica replies straightforwardly. “She isn’t my friend anymore,” I say quickly. “I know that, but we should go anyway to have fun. Come on, we can have fun after the part too,” Angelica says with a convincing smile on her face. I lift an eyebrow at what she says and say, “Fine.” “Good,” Angelica says happily. “Why are you so eager to go?” I ask. “It isn’t the party I’m eager about. It’s afterwards,” Angelica says with a smirk as she turns around and walks the other way. I watch Angelica walk away to one of her other friends, and then I turn back around. “Watch it Matt,” Tai says as I almost run into him. He grins and says, “You have it bad for that girl.” I look at Sora who is smiling before I say, “Whatever.” “Are you coming tonight?” Tai asks. I remember it is Sora’s birthday so I reply, “Of course. Happy Birthday Sora.” “Thanks Matt,” Sora says. “Make sure your girlfriend comes too,” Tai says with a wink. “Leave him alone. Oh, there’s Izzy. See you tonight,” Sora says as she pulls Tai along and walks away. “Oh yeah, this is going to be great,” I whisper under my breath. I pull up to Angelica’s apartment building and wait for her. I see her wave from the living room window and then I see her telling her parents some lie about going over to a friend’s house. After a few minutes, she comes over to my car and climbs in. “Hey beautiful,” I say as she climbs inside. “Hi,” Angelica says enthusiastically as she closes the door to my car. I look at her outfit which consists of a jacket and blue jeans. The jacket is fully buttoned. She seems me looking at her and she quickly begins to undo the buttons to her jacket. She exposes a blue jean jacket over a tight, white tube top underneath. “You look great,” I say. “You’re so cute. Now let’s go.” I step on the gas pedal and we head towards the party that is out of town. “Sora is really popular,” Angelica comments on our way over there. “So? What does being popular have to do with anything?” I ask. “I don’t know. Sometimes I wish I was her,” Angelica replies truthfully. “I’m glad you aren’t. You know I love you more than anyone. Okay, you and my brother, but you in a different way,” I say. “I love you too,” Angelica says with a smile as she leans over and begins to kiss me on the lips while we are at a red light. A car honks its horn and I realize that the light has turned green. Angelica pulls away and puts on her seat belt. I begin to drive again. There are a ton of people when I pull up. We park in a field and I can see a bonfire not too far away. We get out and follow the tons of people who are heading towards the bonfire. “There are so many people here. They must be from other schools too,” Angelica comments as we approach the hundreds of other people. “How can anyone even get close to the fire?” I ask. Angelica giggles and shrugs her shoulders. “Hey guys.” We turn around to see Arnie, one of my band members, standing with three drinks. He hands two to us and winks as he walks away. “I wonder what is in here?” I question as I look at the pinkish drink. “I don’t know, but I don’t care,” Angelica says with a smirk as she brings the cup to her lips. She gulps for a few seconds and brings her mouth away from the cup. “You’re going to get drunk,” I say laughing. “I know so that you and I will have fun tonight. Just don’t get too drunk, okay? I want to get home in one piece tomorrow,” Angelica says. “I promise, I don’t want to. It’ll be more fun if you get drunk,” I say with a smile. “I know,” Angelica whispers as she lifts up her face. I lean down and begin to kiss her, dropping the cup. She wraps her arms around my neck and I put my hands on her waist. I next wrap my arms around her back and pull her closer to me. “Ooh, someone’s going to get some tonight,” Tai’s says with a laugh. “Tai!” Sora scolds. Angelica and I break away and look up at Tai and Sora. “I don’t believe we met that well. I’m Sora Takenouchi,” Sora says politely as she sticks out her hand. “No we didn’t introduce that good considering you called me a social reject on my first day at school,” Angelica says coldly. “Whoa calm down. We want to be friends with Matt’s girlfriend. After all, Matt, Sora, and I are good buddies who have been through a lot together,” Tai says. “And what kind of things are you talking about?” Angelica asks coldly. “You mean Matt hasn’t told you about our adventures in the Digital World?” Tai asks. “No. What do you mean by the Digital World? Is that some sort of video game or something?” Angelica asks as she looks up at me. “No,” I reply quietly, glaring at Tai. “Come on, Angelica. Let me tell you about our adventures,” Tai says as he grabs Angelica away from me and begins to push her away. Before I can go after her, Sora is in my way. She takes my face and begins to kiss me, her breath smells like alcohol. “Sora, why are you going along with this?” I ask as I push her away. Sora falls on the ground, obviously drunk. I look back and forth between where Tai and Angelica are to where Sora lies on the ground. I decide to take care of Sora. *Angelica’s not stupid. She can handle Tai when he is drunk.* ********************************* “Ow, don’t that hurts,” I say angrily as I jerk my arms away. “You want to know Matt’s life, right?” Tai asks. “He can tell me himself,” I reply. “Fine, but he won’t tell you about how much of a jerk he used to be,” Tai says. I think for a moment before replying, “I love Matt and he’ll tell me anything.” “Are you sure?” Tai asks. “I’m positive. Matt told me you are nice, why are you acting like such a jerk?” I ask. “Want to know a secret?” Tai asks as he leans his head down. “What?” I ask hesitantly. “I like you and I had way too much to drink,” Tai says as he sits down and puts a hand over his head. “I thought so,” I say. “How much did you drink?” “I don’t know?” Tai replies. “I’m going to get Matt,” I say as I walk away. I walk over to where Matt is trying to get Sora to stand up, but unsuccessfully. He lifts his head up and smiles as I approach him. “They had too much to drink,” I state as I approach. “Isn’t that obvious?” Matt asks sarcastically as he motions to Sora. “Why don’t we leave them together over there?” I ask as I point to the direction that Tai is in. “Good idea,” Matt says as he lifts Sora into his arms. *********************************** “I want you to tell me about the Digital World,” Angelica says out of breath as she lays her head on my chest. I say equally out of breath, “There isn’t that much to tell.” “Come on, please?” Angelica pleads. “It was seven years ago, I was about ten. There were seven of us when we began. Tai, Sora, Izzy-” “You mean Izzy who is the school’s computer expert?” Angelica asks in disbelief. “Yeah. So it was Tai, Sora, Izzy, Mimi, Joe, T.K., and I who began this crazy adventure We went to summer camp and then it began to snow. We then saw this aurora and then these weird devices fell out of the sky called digivices. We took them and then we were suddenly transported into another world where digital monsters live. We each got one of those friends who could Digivolve- grow bigger- to take on the bad monsters. I know this kind of sounds like I’m bragging, but we saved the world too. Kari, T.K.’s crush, came in after we came back to our world, but then we went back again. It is a really long story,” I explain. “I remember hearing something about that. I remember I lived in New York at the time and there was this gorilla monster climbing the Empire State Building,” Angelica adds. “That is probably Gorillamon,” I say thoughtfully. “Wow, my boyfriend the hero. I love you even more now,” Angel says as she lifts her head off my chest. She asks, “So why did Tai tell me a few hours ago that you were a jerk?” “That was probably because we used to fight all the time. I was sort of going through this rebellious time where I resented Tai for being the leader,” I reply sheepishly. We here a click and the sound of footsteps in the kitchen. “Shoot, my dad’s home. This is early for him. Sometimes he doesn’t come home until four in the morning,” I say as I look at the clock that says it is two in the morning. “Should I sneak out of your window?” Angelica asks as she sits up, pulling the covers to her chin. “Don’t bother. Didn’t you tell your parents that you are at a friends for a sleep over?” I ask. “Yeah,” Angelica replies quietly. “Than you can’t go home or else they will be suspicious. I’ll just go out there and acknowledge my dad that I’m safe at home. I’ll be back in a second,” I say as I sit up and pull my boxer’s on. “Thanks Matt,” Angelica whispers as I walk out of the room. I walk into the kitchen to find Dad eating some left overs from the previous night. He looks up and smiles. “You are up late,” Dad says as he dishes up some rice on his spoon. “I heard you come in,” I say. “Well I’m here. So, didn’t you tell me that you went to a party or something?” Dad asks. “Yeah. I went to Sora’s party. It was fun,” I reply. “How many people were there?” Dad asks. “Just a few....” “A few hundred?” Dad asks. “Yeah,” I reply. “I heard that the police came and broke up that party. I hope you weren’t drinking,” Dad says. “You know that I don’t like to drink. I’m going to bed now,” I say as I begin to walk out of the room. “Yeah, you wouldn’t want to keep Angelica waiting,” Dad says. I turn around and blush, trying to think of something to say. I shrug and wink at Dad as I walk out of the kitchen. I walk back into my room and close the door behind me. “Is everything cool with your dad? Does he know I’m here?” Angelica asks. “He’s too smart not to notice that you are here. He doesn’t care though,” I answer as I take off my boxers and crawl into bed beside Angelica. “If that was my dad, he would flip if he knew you and I.....” “Well your dad doesn’t know so we don’t have anything to worry about,” I say as I kiss Angelica on top of her head. *************************************** “I have the biggest hang over,” Tai calls from the bathroom. “Same with me,” I say as I walk over to the bathroom, clutching my stomach. Tai throws up and then turns away, flushing it down. I walk over and also vomit into the toilet. “That is the last time I get drunk on your birthday,” Tai says. “I know. I can’t even remember the party last night,” I say. “Actually, I can remember we met up with Matt and his girlfriend..... what is her name?” “Angelica,” I reply. “Right, Angelica. I remember grabbing her arm or something. Was I talking about the Digital World last night?” “I have no clue,” I answer. I look at my watch and say, “I better go. Mom will start wondering where I have been all night.” “Didn’t you tell her that you went over to Betsie’s?” Tai asks as he stands up. “Yeah, but I told her I would come work at ten today. What time is it now?” “It’s only eight thirty,” Tai replies. “Can I take a shower? I don’t want to smell like alcohol when I go to work.” “Go ahead, but on one condition. I get to take it with you,” Tai answers with a grin. “Fine with me,” I say with a smile. “Come on, I’ll sneak you to the other bathroom because this one doesn’t have shower with Kari’s help,” Tai says as he opens the door. He calls out, “Kari, can you please come here?” “Hold on,” Kari calls back. “Do you want to come work with me at the flower shop? My mom won’t be there.” “I’m there,” Tai says. Kari looks at us and rolls her eyes saying, “I’m so glad I was at my friend’s house last night.” “I’m glad too,” Tai says. I elbow him in the stomach and blush. “I’ll distract Mom while you guys go take a shower,” Kari says as she walks away. “Thanks, I owe you,” Tai says. “I’ll keep that in mind,” Kari says. *********************************** Part 2 “Here you go, safe at home,” I say as I pull up to Angelica’s apartment. “I’ll call you this afternoon,” Angelica says as she gives me a kiss on the cheek and climbs out of my car, closing the door behind her. I wait until she is inside her apartment to drive away. I begin to head over to T.K.’s apartment because we made plans for this afternoon. I pull up to his apartment ten minutes later. I get out and make my way to the apartment. I knock on the door. Mom opens the door and smiles. “Hi Matt. Come in. T.K. is finishing his breakfast right now.” “Hi,” I say politely as I walk inside. I follow Mom to where T.K. is sitting, eating a bowl of cereal. He looks up and smiles, but doesn’t say anything because he has food in his mouth. “I have a favor to ask you boys. You have to go buy a few flowers for me. Now, I normally don’t ask my boys to do this because I know you know nothing about flowers. I barely do either, but I want flowers anyway. Just ask Mrs. Takenouchi for help-” “Mrs. Takenouchi? Sora’s mother?” I ask. “Yes. I always buy her flowers for my balcony,” Mom says. She hands me the list and says, “T.K. knows where it is so just go there later. Thanks. I’m off. be good, T.K.” “Yes, I’ve always been a very bad boy,” T.K. says sarcastically as he rolls his eyes at Mom. “You are too good of a boy so I have to act like a mother somehow,” Mom says with a smile. She takes her purse and waves to us as she leaves the house. “Want to get this over with before we go catch a movie?” I ask. “Sounds good,” T.K. says. We drive over to the flower store within fifteen minutes. It feels strange as we walk into the store. Tai and Sora are sitting behind the counter kissing. T.K. clears his throat and they quickly pull away. “Hi Matt, hi T.K. Can I help you with something?” Sora asks as she walks over to us. “Our mom gave us a list of a few flowers to buy,” T.K. replies. He hands the list to Sora who begins to go through it. She walks away and motions T.K. to follow. I walk over to Tai. “Did we talk with you guys last night?” Tai asks. “Yeah, but you were so drunk that you passed out in front of us. Also Sora, you tried to make out with me. You even kissed me, but then fell unconscious. Why did you get so drunk last night? You were making Angelica really mad with your comments and you totally blew the whole Digital World thing.” “Sorry,” Tai says sheepishly, “I hope I didn’t cause too much trouble. We were just trying to have fun.” “Sorry Matt. Sorry for whatever I did,” Sora says with a frown. “Don’t worry about it. I bet you guys had been throwing up this morning,” I say. “Don’t remind me. I have a killer headache too,” Tai says as he massages his head. “I on the other hand don’t,” I say smugly. “You’re lucky,” Sora says as she sets a flower on the counter in front of me. “So, you want to come hang out with us later?” Tai asks. “Why would I do that?” I ask, confused. “Why not? You barely talk to us anymore,” Tai says with a frown. “Why should I? I don’t like your friends and you don’t like mine or my girlfriend.” “We like your girlfriend,” Sora says. “No. Just because she wears glasses you guys called her a social reject on her first day at our school. Well just to let you know, she’s the best friend that you guys used to be. Just because she wears glasses doesn’t make her any less pretty than Sora,” I say hotly, my anger rising. “We didn’t say that,” Tai says shaking his head. “I don’t care. Listen, we aren’t even friends anymore. We all grew apart after our adventures in the Digital World,” I say. “Fine be that way. You haven’t changed one bit, Matt. You still are the jerk you were in the Digital World, Tai says angrily. “I hate you. I hate you for telling my girlfriend those exact words. I hate you, Tai Kamiya. You too Sora,” I say angrily as I walk away from them and out of the store. “Matt, wait up!” T.K. calls. “You’ve been silent the entire evening. Tell me what is wrong, now,” Angelica says sternly as she sets down her homework. “It’s nothing really. I just got into a fight with Tai and Sora,” I reply quietly. “What happened?” Angelica asks, her voice filled with concern. “I told them I hate them,” I answer, looking away. “Why would you do that after all you’ve been through together?” “Because I resent them for ditching me. They knew I wouldn’t fit in with the popular group, but they went to them anyway, leaving me behind,” I explain on the verge of tears. “I’m sorry. I don’t know what to say except that - did you just hear that?” “Hear what?” I ask as I look back at her. “I can hear a beeping noise or something. It’s coming from somewhere around us,” Angelica replies as she begins to look around, moving aside books and papers. I help Angelica search. “Hey, it is coming from your school bag,” Angelica says triumphantly as she begins to rummage through my bag. She pulls out my digivice which is vibrating like crazy. “What the heck is this? An alarm clock?” “No,” I whisper as I leap up from the couch. “What is it?” Angelica asks. “It’s my digivice,” I reply in a whisper. “Your what?” Angelica asks with a confused look on her face. “The thing that came out of the sky that sent me and my friends to the Digital World,” I reply. “So what do I want with it? Here,” Angelica says as she throws the digivice at me. I avoid it and it falls to the floor, still beeping. “What is that awful beeping noise?” Mrs. Roasi asks as she comes into the living room. “Matt, why won’t you just catch it?” Angelica asks as she stands up and picks up my digivice. I take a deep breath and answer, “If I touch it, I go back.” “But why?” Angelica asks sadly. “I don’t know, but I’m betting that everyone else is there too. I have to go,” I say as I walk over to Angelica. I take the digivice and kiss her on the cheek before I am transported back to the Digital World by that strange process. “It is an affirmative, we are back,” Joe states. I open my eyes and sit up, looking around. I look over to everyone who is laying on the ground. “I was in the middle of a modeling practice because I have a contest next week. Why did they have to call us back now?” Mimi asks grumpily. “We can tell,” Tai says as he motions at Mimi who is wearing a long, purple dress and tall, spiked sandals. “You are appropriate for saving the world,” I say sarcastically. “Oh thanks, Matt,” Mimi says sarcastically as she laughs. “I wonder why Davis and the others aren’t here,” T.K. asks as he helps Kari stand up. “How peculiar. That is strange how the others aren’t here,” Izzy comments. “I wonder why we are here. I don’t want to be,” Tai says. “Not everything is about you,” I say harshly. “Stop acting like a baby, Matt,” Tai says. “I thought you guys stopped fighting and are best friends,” Mimi says. I glare at Tai and turn away. “Or I guess not,” Joe says to Mimi. “They’re just having a small argument about nothing,” Sora says. “Whatever,” I say through gritted teeth. “Matt is just being a wimp because he can’t handle that I’m more popular and likable than him. If I had it my way, I would make sure your girlfriend hates you,” Tai says harshly. “Angelica’s right, you are an asshole,” I say loudly. “She doesn’t give a damn what you think or how popular you are because she thinks you are a loser.” “Yeah? Well that’s because your girlfriend’s a bitch who needs to get laid-” “Shut up, Tai!” Sora scolds. “Stay out of this, Sora. I can defend myself from your loser boyfriend,” I say angrily as I begin to punch Tai. Tai punches back and jumps on me, punching me in the stomach. I punch back and push him off me. We lay on the ground out of breath. “Stop it both of you!” Sora yells as she steps between us. She says to Tai, “Stop pretending like you own the world, and Matt, just cool it. We don’t need you guys fighting when we have a crisis.” “Fine with me, Sora,” Tai says with a smile to Sora. “Fine by me, too,” I say. “Let’s start walking. I don’t know where, but we have to do something,” Joe says. We begin to walk in silence. It has been an hour since Tai and I fought. He walks up front with Sora and I walk almost as the rear with Joe and Mimi talking behind me. I suddenly feel someone walking beside me. I look over to see Mimi walking beside me. “I heard you have a girlfriend,” Mimi says in a ‘that is so sweet’ voice. “Than you heard right,” I say. “I hear her name is Angel. What a pretty name,” Mimi says. “Actually, her name is Angelica, but many people call her that because of her long blonde hair and blue eyes,” I explain. “Are you guys sure you’re not distant cousins or something?” Mimi asks. “No,” I reply with a laugh. “I wish I could meet her, but you will probably never come and visit me,” Mimi says sadly. “Hey, it isn’t my fault I don’t have money. Plus you are rich, you come visit me,” I say. “I know I should, but I’m so caught up in my life right now,” Mimi says. “Oh, so I’m guessing you have a boyfriend and a modeling career?” “You guessed right,” Mimi says with a smile. “Who’s this wonder boy?” I ask. “His name is Michael. He is a Digidestined just like us,” Mimi replies. “I heard about Michael from T.K. He told me they were stuck with Digitamamon in the restaurant until Michael came and paid for the meal. They’re lucky they didn’t have to work like Joe and I did,” I say. “They were lucky. So, why are you and Tai fighting? Everyone told me you guys were best friends.” I turn away. “Please Matt. I’m not the blabber mouth I was before. You can trust me,” Mimi says pleading. “Some people lied to you than. Tai and I haven’t been friends for over a year now. He and Sora ditched me and then yesterday they wanted us to be friends again. I told him to screw it,” I explain. “Why? Don’t you want to be friends with them?” Mimi asks curiously. I look at her and try to reply, but can’t. “I think you need to think about what I said. See, I’m not so annoying after all,” Mimi says with a smile as she walks towards Izzy. We stop for a rest and Mimi is the first to sit on the ground. She asks, “Does anyone have any extra clothes?” “No, why would we?” Tai asks with a laugh. “She’s just asking. Don’t make fun of her,” I reply. “Why don’t you stay out of other people’s business, Matt?” Tai asks angrily. “Maybe because I’m sick of your attitude. You always say mine is the bad one, but look at yourself. You and Sora have both become snobs in your so interesting life. You’ve forgotten about your real friends because you want to be part of the ‘cool crowd’. Well I’m sick of you. Just leave me alone,” I say as I turn around and walk away. “Matt, wait up!” T.K. calls. T.K. runs in front of me and says, “Stop acting like this. Do you and Tai automatically start fighting every time you come into the Digital World?” “Leave me alone, T.K.,” I say as I walk past him. “Be careful,” T.K. says quietly. *Maybe this was a stupid idea to leave them. I don’t even have Gabumon to protect me. But Tai was making me so mad. He knows I am right. He knows that he ditched both me and Izzy. But still..... I should go back. I shouldn’t be out here alone. Especially not without Gabumon.* I hear thumping so I turn around to see Greymon. Tai jumps off his arm and lands in front of me. We stare uneasily at each other. “I’m sorry Matt,” Tai says shamefully. “For what? Don’t you even understand why I’m mad?” I ask. “I sort of get it. You feel that Sora and I ditched you, don’t you? You think that I don’t want to be your friend anymore, right?” I nod. “You are completely wrong. I wish that you and I were still friends. You were the person who I talked to whenever I couldn’t talk to Sora about it because it was a guy thing. Then you just left one day. You just left and began to hang more with your band to the point where you didn’t even smile at me in the hallways. I didn’t understand it at first. Actually, at first I thought you began to hang around me less because I began dating Sora. But I don’t think it was that. I began to think that you didn’t have it too good at home and needed some space. So that’s what Sora and I did, gave you space,” Tai explains. “So all of this means what?” I ask. “That I’m sorry. I want us to be friends again. Hang out together like old times, with Izzy too,” Tai replies. “Why this sudden change?” I ask. Tai looks uneasy and replies, “I can’t really say. I promised Sora. All that I’m going to tell you is that we are sick of the bad influence from our other friends. So can we not argue anymore? It is making everyone really upset.” Tai extends his hand and I take it. I say, “This doesn’t change anything except that I promise not to be such a hot head. This also doesn’t mean we are friends because I don’t believe that friendship automatically happens with a shake of hands.” “I know,” Tai says sadly. “Hey, when did you get Greymon?” I ask. “Our digimon came to us not too long after you left. If you can see high enough, you’ll see Gabumon,” Tai says as he points to the top of Greymon’s head. Gabumon jumps down and runs over to me for a hug. I put my arms on his tiny body and hug him back. “Let me Digivolve,” Gabumon says as he releases from our hug. “If you are up to it, go ahead,” I say as I hold out my digivice. “Gabumon, Digivolve to Garurumon.” “We should get going back to the others,” Tai says as he gets back onto Greymon. I climb onto Garurumon’s back and he leaps forward. “Hey Matt, it is your turn for watch now,” Joe says. I open my eyes and sit up. I say sarcastically, “Goody.” “It isn’t too bad since we all only have to do it for one hour,” Joe says. “I know,” I say as I walk away from Joe and over to the small fire. I sit in front of it, facing the others who all lay asleep. T.K. and Kari lay somewhat close. I remember they started off sleeping further, but probably snuggled closer for warmth. Joe is now sleeping against a tree beside Gommamon. Izzy is sleeping not too far away from him with Tentomon beside him. Mimi sleeps right beside Izzy because she whined before going to sleep how cold she is. *No wonder, with that skimpy dress anyone could be cold.* Tai is snuggled next to Sora sleeping. Sora isn’t sleeping though. Her eyes are wide open, staring into the ground. She appears to be silently crying with tears running down her face. I can see them because of the way the fire lights up her face; they sleep the closer to me. She closes her eyes, trying to blink away the tears. I almost ask her what is wrong, but loud screaming fills my head. Sora jerks up and quickly wipes the tears off her face. Sora stands up and asks in a whisper, “Did you hear that?” “Yeah I did. It sounded like a human screaming,” I reply. Tai sits up and asks, “What’s wrong with you guys?” “We heard screaming,” I answer, looking around. “Hey guys, get up!” Tai shouts. “Oh brother, why do you always wake me up when I have the best dreams?” Kari asks grumpily as she sits up. “You mean the ones about T.K., right?” Tai asks. “Shut up!” Kari scolds as she pinches Tai. “Owe,” Tai says laughing as he rubs his arm. “Knock it of you two,” Izzy says as he places a finger to his lips. “Why are we getting up? Is there danger?” Mimi asks as she grabs Izzy’s arm. “Would you stop it?” Izzy asks as he shakes Mimi away. “Shh!” Joe says as he places a finger to his mouth. “Seriously, what did you hear?” T.K. asks. “Matt and I heard a girl scream,” Sora replies. “A girl?” Joe, Izzy, and Mimi asks in unison. I nod my head. “But that would mean another Digidestined,” Mimi whispers. “Exactly,” I say. We hear more screaming, but it sounds like more than one voice. The screaming gets louder as they near us. Into the clearing emerges two people, but I can’t see them because it is so dark. “Look people! We are safe! They can help us!” A female says. “Why are you screaming?” Tai asks. “Are we not supposed to when monsters are chasing us?” The same girl asks. “Shut up, we don’t want to sound crazy, Brooke.” “Angelica?” I question as I step towards them. “Matt! I’m so happy to see you!” Angelica exclaims as she runs into my arms. “There were these monsters chasing us..... and oh my God! We are in the Digital World, aren’t we?” “Yeah..... why are you here?” I ask as I let go of her. “Brooke and I were watching television when these devices landed in our hands. Then we came here. The thing is, they are different then yours so I didn’t think that it was a digivice,” Angelica explains. “Who are you?” Joe asks as he motions to Brooke. “This is my annoying younger sister, Brooke,” Angelica replies. “You are so cruel. Hey I know you, you are the star of the junior basketball team at school,” Brooke says smiling at T.K. “Hi,” T.K. says friendly. “What were those monsters?” Brooke asks. “Digimon,” Izzy replies. “Hey, I know you. You are Izzy, president of the computer club. We weren’t the only one who came here. Your friend also came with the brown hair,” Angelica says. “I have a few friends who have brown hair. Which one?” “I don’t know. He has green eyes and is kind of short like you,” Angelica explains, pointing at Izzy. “Thanks,” Izzy says sarcastically. He thinks for a minute before saying, “I think you might mean Jeremy. Where is he?” “We all got separated when these digimon attacked us,” Brooke replies. “Was there anyone else with you?” Tai asks. “Yes. There was another boy who I don’t think goes to the same school as us. Also another girl. I think that the other three got separated together,” Angelica replies. Mimi comes up to us and pushes me away. She says, “I love your clothes. It is so nice to meet you. Which do you prefer me calling you, Angelica or Angel?” “Thank you. Whatever you want is just fine,” Angelica replies smiling. She turns to everyone saying, “I know Tai, Sora, Izzy, T.K., but who are you?” “My name is Joe,” Joe says as he extends his hand. Angelica takes it and smiles saying, “It is nice to meet you.” She lets go and turns to Kari asking, “I’ve seen you with T.K. before, but who are you?” “My name is Kari. I’m Tai’s younger sister,” Kari answers. “You’re Tai’s sister? What a small world,” Angelica says. “Maybe we should look for the others?” Izzy suggests. “Good idea Izzy,” Tai says. “Hold on a second. Angelica, show me your digivice,” T.K. says. Angelica and Brooke hold up D-3s. “It’s like our model, T.K.,” Kari says. “Is that bad?” Brooke asks. “No, no. We were just a bit surprised,” T.K. replies. “How do we know in which direction to look in?” Mimi asks. “Good question. I would assume that if Brooke and Angelica came from the direction that they would be in any one of those directions. I suggest that we split up into two groups and search the directions,” Izzy says. “Good plan. Why don’t we meet up at the base of that hill?” Sora suggests, as she points to a hill that is far away, barely visible. “Sure. I think that we should divide up in groups of five. Why don’t Matt, Sora, Tai, Angelica, and Brooke go together and Kari, T.K., Joe, Mimi, and I go together in a group?” Izzy suggests. “All right. Let’s go,” Tai says. He holds up his digivce and says, “Agumon, Digivolve.” “Agumon, Digivolve to Greymon!” “Digi Armor Energize!” T.K. and Kari call out at the same time. “Patamon, Armor Digivolve to Pegasusmon! Flying hope!” “Gatomon, Armor Digivolve to Nerfertimon! The angel of light!” “Palmon, Can you Digivolve too?” Mimi pleads with her digivice out. “Palmon, Digivolve to Togemon!” “Gommamon, Digivolve to Ikkakumon!” “Tentomon, Digivolve to Kabutarimon!” “Biyomon, Digivolve to Birdramon!” “Gabumon, Digivolve,” I say as I hold up my digivice. “Gabumon, Digivolve to Garurumon!” “Can I ride on the bird?” Brooke asks excitedly. “Of course,” Sora replies with a smile. “Goody. Angelica, I get to ride on the bird,” Brooke says excitedly. “Shut up, you freak,” Angelica scolds. “Come on, sit on the other claw,” Sora says as she points at the other claw. “We’re going to go that way. See you guys hopefully in a few days!” T.K. calls to us as he follows the other digimon out of the clearing. “I’m guessing your digimon is that one,” Angelica says as she points at Garurumon. “Yeah. Now come on, get on,” I say as I motion her to get on. “But how?” Angelica asks. “Matt, be nice to your girlfriend and help her up!” Tai shouts down laughing from Greymon’s neck. “Yeah. Be nice to me,” Angelica says as she puts her hands on her waist. “I’m sorry,” I say laughing. Garurumon lowers his back and I help Angelica on. I jump on in front of her, and Angelica quickly wraps her arms tightly around my waist as Garurumon runs after Greymon, who already began to walk. “This is so weird. Mom is going to flip when we aren’t at home,” Angelica says. “Tell me about it. When we first began this crazy adventure, Izzy came up with a theory that the aliens had something to do with it. I think we all went a bit crazy wondering if our parents were worried sick. Then it turned out that one minute here equaled one day in our world. Also-” “Don’t continue. Now I’m starting to get scared,” Angelica whispers. “Don’t be. I’m sorry. I have to admit that I’m excited that you are here,” I say. “This is all too confusing. I’m just so tired too,” Angelica says. “What time is it?” “Only a bit passed three in the mourning,” I replied. “Oh.” “I wonder why you are here though. What purpose do you have and why are you needed. There are tons of Digidestined around the world. I wonder why they needed you?” “I don’t know,” Angelica answers. “Maybe I just got lucky to come see you in action.” “I don’t know. Then why would Brooke and those other three be here?” “Oh Matt. Stop worrying. Why are you so serious right now?” Angelica asks. “You think this is all one big joke, don’t you?” I ask. “Well sort of. So what if I’m here. Who cares? Why are you so serious?” Angelica asks. “Being here is a serious matter. You have to take it seriously. The world depends on what we do here. I have the feeling that when I told you we saved the world, you thought I was joking. You did, didn't you?” “Yeah. I thought you just wanted more action from me. Like you really saved the world-” “We did too. I’m not joking. Our world would be history right now if my friends and I didn’t destroy Myotismon or the Dark Masters. Angelica, if you are a Digidestined, take it seriously. You are a member of the team now and you have to be mature about this. Lives depend on it. If we truly are facing an opponent, he/she must be very dangerous and probably want to take over the world,” I explain. “You aren’t joking, are you?” Angelica asks, her voice trembling. “No,” I reply, a bit frustrated. “I want to go home,” Angelica says as she begins to cry. “I’m sorry. You have to understand that we are riding my digimon for a reason. We have gone through many battles together, right Garurumon?” “Right,” Garurumon replied. “I don’t want to battle or whatever,” Angelica says crying. “You remind me of Mimi,” I say under my breath. “Is everything okay down there?” Tai asks. “Everything is fine,” I call back. I find Angelica’s hand that is wrapped tightly around my waist and hold it. I say, “Don’t worry. I’ll make sure you and Brooke will be fine. Who knows, maybe I’m making too big out of a deal. All I’m trying to point out is that this isn’t a joke and you have to take it seriously and maturely. If there is a fight, we need all the help we can get.” “These people are harder to find than a needle in a haystack,” Tai comments as he steps away from the fire he just finished building. “So, how do you like it here so far?” Sora asks to Angelica. I shake my head at Sora who gives me an apologetic look. “I want to go home. I don’t want to be here,” Angelica replies in a whisper. “God you remind me of Mimi,” Tai says with a laugh. “Is that good or bad?” Angelica asks. “It isn’t either way. What Tai means is that Mimi used to hate fighting too. Especially when it was Tai and I doing the fighting,” I say with a smile as I look up at Tai. “Yeah. I think we fought more than we did to digimon,” Tai says with a laugh. “Angelica, why are you so scared about being here? It isn’t that bad. Okay, so maybe it wasn’t fun running from that digimon earlier, but this place isn’t so scary,” Brooke says. “By the way, what did these digimon look like? Was he big or small?” Tai asks. “Well... they were green with bulging eyes that sat on stalks on the top of their heads. They was slimy and there was a whole bunch of them,” Brooke describes. “Were they about this high?” I ask, making a gesture that is about two feet from the ground. “Yeah, about that height,” Brooke replies. Sora, Tai, and I begin to laugh like crazy. “What’s so funny?” Angelica demands. “Those were just Numemon. They won’t hurt a fly. They helped us before when we were defeating the Dark Masters,” Tai replies. “Did they help you guys?” I ask, confused. “Yeah, but that was after you left. Remember how I told you that Kari got really sick? The next day when I went to find her, she was known as Queen Kari by the Numemon. Then they sadly got reconfigured after they tried to take on Machinedramon,” Tai explains. “Where were you?” Angelica asks. “I was out on my own because I had a few problems,” I reply, looking at Tai, who has a smirk on his face. Then I look at Sora and say, “Then Sora, T.K., and Joe came to find me to help Tai beat Peidmon.” “I have a question. What do you mean defeating a digimon? Do you fight them, and with what?” Angelica asks. “Well our digimon Digivolves and fights with their attacks. What you saw today isn’t the highest they can Digivolve to. They can Digivolve to even more stronger levels. Then our digimon battle who we have to. There have been many close calls where we have almost been beaten,” Sora explains. “Do you think that we’ll get digimon?” Brooke asks excitedly. “Probably,” Tai replies. “I hope not. I don’t want to fight or come close death. I want to go home,” Angelica says as she begin to cry into my shoulder. I wrap my arms around her and shrug at Tai who has a sympathetic look on his face. “Why are you being such a baby?” Brooke asks. “Because I don’t want anyone to get hurt,” Angelica replies, still crying. “I hope Izzy’s group have better luck searching than us,” Tai says. ************************************ Part 2 It’s been two hours since we split up. Kari, Izzy, and I ride on our digimon in the air while Joe and Mimi ride theirs on land and in the water. Kari’s digimon is flying right beside mine. “I wonder if the others have found them yet. We seem to not be having too much luck,” Kari says. “I hope so too,” I say. “Help us! Someone please, help us!” “Hey guys, we have found two of them!” Mimi shouts up to us. “Never mind,” Kari says as our digimon head towards a clearing. “Don’t be afraid. These digimon won’t hurt you,” I say as I jump off Pegasusmon. “Who are you?” The girl asks. “I’m T.K. This is Kari, Joe, Izzy, and Mimi,” I introduce, pointing at everyone. “Isn’t there supposed to be three of you?” Joe asks. “Actually five.” The boy replies. “Actually Jeremy, we found Angel and Brooke. We thought that the three of you got separated together. The other boy most be somewhere else,” Izzy explains. “What is your name?” Mimi asks to the girl. “Emma.” “Why don’t you come ride on my digimon and I’ll try to explain as good as Izzy would about being a Digidestined?” Mimi suggests kindly as she walks over to Emma. “Okay,” Emma says smiling. “Come on, Jeremy. You already know about the Digital World so I don’t have to tell you. So, what digimon were you guys running from?” Izzy asks as he helps Jeremy onto Kabutarimon. “They were green and slimy.....” *********************************** “So, how do you feel?” I ask. “Tired, home sick, motion sick, and did I mention home sick?” “That bad, huh? You’ll get used to everything. Give it time,” I say. I look up at the sun that is almost setting and say, “We should be stopping soon for tonight.” “I guess. It’s just that I feel like a wimp because you know I don’t usually show a weakness. This place brings out the worst in me. I feel things that I never used to. I just have a really bad feeling about things,” Angelica explains. “I’m sure everything will be fine. The other group probably found everyone and we can all meet happily at the base of that hill,” I say. “Hold me,” Angelica whispers. Angelica and I switched positions on Garurumon. She now sits in front of me and I hold us both on. I take my hands off Garurumon’s fir and wrap them around Angelica. She leans back and snuggles her head into my chest. “Matt, I can smell something,” Garurumon growls. “Where?” I ask, letting go of Angelica. “Straight up ahead,” Garurumon replies, quickening pace. I shout up to Tai and Sora, “Garurumon smells something up ahead. Be on your guard!” “Thanks Matt!” Tai shouts in reply. We run into a clearing where a Roachmon is buzzing in front of a young boy, a little younger than T.K. and Kari, and more around Cody’s age. He winces as the Roachmon flies closer to him, cornering him into a tree. “Howling Blaster!” Garurumon shoots. “Nova Blast!” “Meteor Wing!” The three attacks hit Roachmon and he runs away into the trees. “That’s Roachmon for you, a wimp when he has to fight,” Tai says as he climbs down from Greymon. “Thank you. Hey, you landed as the same time I did in this crazy world,” the boy says, pointing at Angelica. “What is your name?” Sora asks as she and Brooke approach us. “James Magri. Where are those other kids that landed with us?” James asks to Brooke. “We thought they were with you,” Brooke replies. “I hope Izzy’s group finds them,” I say. “Who’s Izzy?” James asks. “There are five more of us searching for the others,” Tai replies. “By the way, I’m Tai, this is my girlfriend, Sora, that is Matt, his girlfriend Angelica, and Angelica’s sister, Brooke.” “Nice to meet you,” James says smiling. “Let’s get heading towards the hill. James, come and ride on Greymon with me since you don’t have a digimon yet,” Tai says. “The dinosaur, right?” James asks nervously. Tai nods his head. “You can start going, Garurumon,” I say as I wrap my arms around Angelica. “Let’s stop here for tonight. It doesn’t look like we are going to reach that hill any time soon,” Tai says. “How did I know that you would suggest that?” I ask. “You just know me too well, Matt,” Tai says with a smirk. “I really do hope that the others found those other two people,” Sora says thoughtfully. “Don’t worry, Sora. I’m sure they'll find them. If not, we’ll keep looking,” I say positively. “I bet you are right,” Sora says smiling. “I’m going to go take a walk,” Brooke says standing up. “No you aren’t,” Angelica says standing up. “Why not?” Brooke asks. “We are in some fucking crazy place and you want to go take a walk? Are you stupid?” Angelica asks angrily. “Whoa, calm down, Angelica. Brooke, maybe you shouldn’t go alone,” I say, standing up between them. “Of course you treat me like a child, Amgelica. Matt, you normally treat me like a grown up. I can take care of myself,” Brooke says stubbornly. “Doesn’t this argument sound familiar?” Tai asks, laughing. “Only too well,” I reply. “Brooke, I don’t want you to go off alone. This place is too dangerous and you don’t even have a digimon to protect you,” Angelica says with a frown. “Here. How about I go with Brooke to that stream not too far away, and then we can come straight back?” James suggests. “No way. Who knows what you two teenagers want to do. Your hormones are probably bouncing off the wall. No way are you taking my sister away,” Angelica says, shaking her head. “Come on Angelica. Brooke and James won’t do anything stupid. They don’t even know each other. Can you calm down and not be so over protective? Oh my God, I sound like T.K.,” I whisper. “Fine, go on, but if you die, you won’t see me grieving for you,” Angelica says as she sits down. “I knew you would give in. Come on James, let’s get out of here before she changes her mind,” Brooke says as she and James walk away. Silence follows their departure. We sit around the small fire Tai and I built, staring into it. “I’m tired, Matt. Is it okay if I lay my head on your lap until you go to sleep?” Angelica asks. “Yeah. Try to get some sleep,” I reply. About a half an hour later, Angelica looks like she is asleep. “Angelica seems really worried. I hope she doesn’t get too nervous or else she won’t be any help to us,” Sora says. ************************************* “Angelica seems really worried. I hope she doesn’t get too nervous or else she won’t be any help to us,” Sora says. “I agree. Matt, you need to help her not be so afraid,” Tai says softly. “I know. It’s just that she is really freaked out. I’m serious. She keeps saying she has a bad feeling about being here. I wish she could go home. She won’t be able to help us if she’s afraid,” Matt says. *He doesn’t want me here?* “Matt, I’m afraid too. I’m just saying that she needs to have a bit of courage and you’re probably the only one who could help her with that,” Tai says. “Do you actually think that we’ll be able to defeat this opponent? I have the feeling this one won’t be as easy,” Sora says. “Who says fighting the Dark Masters was easy? Or Myotismon? I mean Matt and I had to be shot with arrows in order for that stupid prophecy to come true. That was really scary,” Tai says. “Tell me about it. I sort have the same feelings as you, Sora. Maybe we won’t be able to win. There’s a reason why Brooke, Angelica, and those other three are here. We need to find that out,” Matt says. “We need a plan,” Tai says. “After we meet at the hill, let’s try to contact Gennai,” Sora says. “Yeah. Do you think that we can bring Ken and the others here? We could use them if Angelica and them don’t get a digimon,” Matt suggests. “We can try. We’ll get Izzy to do that right away when we meet up with them,” Tai answers. “I hope we can prepare for this battle instead of meeting each one when we aren’t prepared,” Matt says quietly. “I hope so too,” Sora says. “We’re back,” Brooke says. “What were you guys discussing?” James asks. “Nothing important,” Sora replies. “I see my sister is already asleep,” Brooke says. “She was tired,” Matt explains. He shakes me and whispers, “Angelica, let’s go to sleep.” I pretend as if I just woke up and nod as Matt helps me sit up. *I’ll prove that I’m not a wimp. I’ll be strong like Matt, Sora, Tai, and all of their friends.* ************************************ “We’re almost at the hill top. I wonder if Tai is there yet,” Kari says. “They should be. Unless they didn’t rest like we did last night, then they would already be there way ahead of us,” I say. “We were all so tired last night,” Kari says. “I’m sure they rested too. Hey, I can see them over there. Can you?” I ask, pointing towards the hill where they sit on top. “I can see them. Izzy, can you?” Kari asks, calling over to Izzy and Jeremy. Izzy replies, “Yes we can.” “Hey!” Tai waves from up top of the hill. “Hi Tai!” Kari waves back, smiling. Pegasusmon lands right next to Matt and Angelica, and I hop off before he De-Digivolves to Patamon. I smile as I approach Matt. “I see you guys found the other two,” Matt says. “We did. We were worried about the other boy though, but I guess you guys found him,” I say as I approach them. The three of us walk over to the others who have all crowded around Izzy and his computer. “Did you find Gennai?” Matt asks. “Unfortunately, no,” Izzy replies. “So how do we find our digimon?” Jeremy asks. “When we came here the first time, they were waiting for us where we landed,” Tai replies thoughtfully. “Is there anywhere we can search today? It’s still early morning and we have an entire day,” Brooke says. “I guess we could search around this area,” Izzy says. “Okay. Let’s do that then,” Emma says. “Try calling Ken and Davis,” Sora says. “That’s a good idea,” I say. “Yeah and I thought of it, Kiddo,” Matt says proudly. “I’m sure you did,” I say laughing. “He’s not lying,” Angelica says. ******************************** “That was a long day of searching,” Angelica comments. “I know. I’m so tired,” I say. “Not too tired to take a walk, Matt?” Angelica asks with a smirk. “Are you serious?” I ask in disbelief. “Oh yeah, I’m serious,” Angelica replies, leaning forward to kiss me. I break away and say, “Okay, let’s go for a walk.” We stand up and walk over to the campfire where Tai, Sora, Mimi, Joe, and Izzy are the only ones who are awake. They smile as we approach them. “We are going for a walk,” I explain as we begin to walk away. “Don’t be gone too long or we’ll send a search party, and I’m pretty sure you don’t want us catching you two,” Tai says with a laugh. I roll my eyes as Angelica and I leave the clearing. ******************************** “It isn’t obvious what those two want to do,” Tai says laughing. “Just leave them alone,” Joe says, shaking his head. *I wish I was in the place that Angelica is in. I want to be with Matt. Angelica shouldn’t be with him. Why am I feeling this? I have never felt this way for Matt until we came back to the Digital World. He doesn’t want me. He is in love with Angelica. I guess I have to let it be.* ********************************** I jerk my head up in a cold sweat. I look around at everyone to make sure they are okay. *Stupid dream.* I look around until my gaze falls on Sora, who is sitting up with her back turned to me. I stand up and walk over to her. “Can’t sleep?” I ask as I take a seat beside her. “No,” Sora replies quietly, shaking her head. “Don’t worry. I’m sure everything will turn out fine like it used to,” I say. “It has nothing to do with that, Matt,” Sora whispers. “What’s wrong? Had a fight with Tai or something?” I ask. “No. I hate myself for doing this.” “For doing what?” I ask. “I hate myself for being in love with you. I can’t help it, ever since we came back to the Digital World, I’ve wanted to kiss you and be with you,” Sora answers in a trembling voice. I look at her shocked and then look away saying, “You should have told me that over a year ago.” “What do you mean?” Sora asks. “I was completely head over heels in love with you. I think I was obsessed with you until Angelica came. I drifted away from you guys when Tai began dating you. I was so jealous of him,” I reply. “You were?” Sora asks in a whisper. “Yes I was. Oh God Sora, why did you have to do this now?” I ask angrily as I stand up and walk closer to Angelica. ********************************** Part 3 *Two girls are in love with me, and the worst part is, I’m in love with both of them. Angelica Roasi is beautiful with her long blonde hair and blue eyes. She has an attractive figure and is also very smart. She’s been my best friend for this past year or so. How can I ditch her since she’s been there for me? Sora Takenouchi is also very pretty and smart. She was also there for me in the Digital World when I needed to find out what I expected from myself and others. Sora supported my decision the most and promised to watch T.K. for me while I was gone. How can I chose between them? And what about Tai? I feel awful because he doesn’t know that his girlfriend is in love with me. Or does he? No, I don’t think so. He seems so happy with Sora. Why did Sora have to do this? Why am I even considering her if I told myself I’m over her? I guess I’m not over her. Maybe I should chose-* “Matt? You’ve been quiet all morning. What is wrong?” Angelica asks quietly. “Nothing is wrong,” I reply with a fake smile. “Are you sure?” She asks. “I’m positive,” I reply. “Are you worried that we won’t win this fight?” Angelica asks with concern in her voice. “No, not really,” I reply. “Listen, if you want to be alone, I’ll go talk with Mimi. She really wants to visit with me for some strange reason,” Angelica says. “I don’t want you to go,” I whisper, “but go talk to Mimi anyway because she’s fun to talk to. Everyone knows that, and if you go talk to her, you’ll realize that too.” “Okay,” Angelica says as she leaves my side and walks over to Mimi and Joe. I walk by myself as we head to..... well we actually don’t know. We are all confused right now. We couldn’t get a hold of Yolei or Davis or any of them, and we couldn’t find Gennai. So I guess we are searching for their digimon. I look over at Sora who is talking happily with Tai. When Tai turns away to ask Izzy something, she looks my way and stares into my eyes. I stare back and I can feel my face tensening up. ‘I’m sorry,’ Sora mouths to me silently. I turn away and look over at Angelica who is talking happily with Mimi. They begin to laugh and both almost trip over each other’s feet. I look back at Sora who is staring sadly at Angelica. I close my eyes and my hands automatically go into a fist. “What’s wrong, you look upset?” T.K. questions as he runs up beside me. “I’m fine,” I reply in a whisper. “You don’t seem fine, but I guess you wouldn’t want to tell your younger brother your so terrible life,” T.K. says in a dramatic voice. I smile at his enthusiasm and say, “Go hang out with Kari. You know you want to.” “Be quiet,” T.K. scolds as he shoves my shoulder. “Fine,” I say as I push him away. “Hey, I have gotten an e-mail from Gennai!” Izzy exclaims. I run forward and peer over his shoulder, waiting for Izzy to open the message. He opens it and reads, “Children/Adults, follow the light that will be transmitted to you as soon as you finish reading this message. It will lead you to a cave where you will find one crest. I will contact you after you find that crest and transport you to my house. The walk should only take half a day if you don’t stop.” “Well, at least his directions are clear unlike other times,” Tai says with a laugh. “No kidding,” I comment as I step away from Izzy. “I wonder who’s crest it is?” Mimi questions. “Good question. Let’s go find this crest so that we can go to Gennai’s warm, safe house,” Joe says. “It must belong to one of these five since we already have our crests,” Sora says. “What are crests?” Emma asks. “We used to have these crests that got destroyed by Apocolamon. Anyway, they were traits that we had within us, brought out by each other’s faith in each other,” Kari replies. “What was your crests?” Brooke asks. “Courage.” “Love.” “Sincerity.” “Reliability.” “Knowledge.” “Friendship.” “Hope.” “Light.” “That is pretty cool,” James says, responding to our crests. “Let’s go find this crest,” Tai says, leading the way as usual. It took less time than what Gennai told us to find this cave. We approach it now, it’s mouth at least twenty feet high, but it is very narrow. We’ll have to go in in single file. “Shall we go in?” Mimi asks. “At least we aren’t finding the crest in a well,” I say. “You said it, Matt,” Izzy says. “I say let the new guys go in first, and we can follow them,” T.K. says. “I’ll lead the way,” Brooke says as she ventures into the cave. Angelica quickly follows her sister, followed by James, Jeremy, and Emma. Tai follows Emma, while Sora follows him, I got stuck following her, Mimi behind me, Joe behind her, Izzy behind Joe, T.K. behind Izzy, and Kari behind him. Someone trips behind me sending a chain reaction. I bump into Sora, who blushes and quickly quickens her pace. After a few minutes of walking, the cave opens up to a large room. “Look at the sign on the wall,” Jeremy says, pointing up. The sign is a hard one to read, I’m not sure what it means. It has a line swirling and then it stops; very simple. “Why don’t you each touch it?” Joe suggests. “I’ll go first,” Brooke says as she begins to run up the five stairs before the symbol. She runs up and touches it, it remains silent, nobody breathes. Brooke runs back down and shrugs. “I’ll go,” James says as he runs up the stairs. He touches it, but again, nothing happens so he says, “I guess it isn’t mine.” “Might as well give it a try,” Jeremy says as he casually runs up the stairs and touches it. He turns around and says, “I didn’t think it was mine.” “How about you and I go at the same time?” Emma suggests. “Sounds good,” Angelica replies. Emma and Angelica walk up the stairs cautiously and both tremble as they reach out. A bright, black light comes shooting out, but since they are both touching it, I don’t know who it belongs to. The light dies down as fast as it came out of the wall. “Whoa,” Tai comments. “Is this a crest?” Angelica asks as she holds up the golden necklace with a symbol inside. “You have a crest,” I whisper as I walk over to her. “I sure do,” Angelica says proudly. “Interesting, it is black and gray,” Izzy says. “Is that bad?” Angelica asks. “I’m sure it is not. It’s just that all of our crests were colored. Mine was red, Matt’s blue, Tai’s orange, and so on. Actually, Joe’s was gray,” Sora says thoughtfully. “Yeah. So I’m sure it is just the color chosen,” Joe says. “Hey guys, Gennai’s going to transmit us to his house,” Izzy says as he shuts his lap top. “Good. Now we don’t have to walk,” Mimi says excitedly. We wait a few seconds until a light surrounds us. The next minute we notice that we aren’t in the cave, but in a house. “Welcome to my home,” Gennai says as he walks into the room. “You’re still young. Too bad Yolei’s not here,” Kari says with a laugh. Gennai smiles and then looks directly at Angelica. He says, “I see you have found your crest.” “What crest symbol is it?” Angelica asks. “The Crest of Death,” Gennai replies. “The Crest of Death?” I question. “You will know when the right time is to use it,” Gennai says. “Will we get our crests back?” T.K. asks hopefully. “Unfortunately, you won’t be,” Gennai answers. “Hey, where are our digimon?” Tai asks. “You don’t need them. All you needed them for was to find the crest,” Gennai answers. “Won’t we need them to fight?” Sora asks. “No. The digimon that wants to take over all worlds cannot be beaten like you did to the Dark Masters or Myotismon. Also, he is not visible except to the Digidestined,” Gennai says. “So what? It isn’t like the real world needs to see a digimon,” Joe says. “Actually, he is in your world right now,” Gennai says. “Than we have to go back,” I say. “No. You will wait patiently for him to return to the Digital World. He can’t stay in your world for more than three days. He went into your world this morning,” Gennai explains. “But what about our family and friends. Let us contact Davis and his team,” Tai says. “No, those Digidetined aren’t to get involved. He can’t do anything yet. He needs to find Her,” Gennai replies. “Who is Her?” Kari asks. “She is what he needs to take over the world. He won’t be able to find her until too late,” Gennai says, looking over towards me and Angelica. He then smiles and says, “Stay for the next three days and relax. Everything will take place when it does. There is food prepared in the kitchen.” “If you insist,” Tai says, pulling Sora into the kitchen with him. “Come on. I’m starving,” Angelica says. “Would you hurry up and choose a room?” I ask impatiently. “I have found the room I want. It is this room right here where we can look out the window at...... at an ocean?” Angelica asks in disbelief. “Oh yeah, minor detail. Gennai’s hiuse is under the water,” I explain. “Things just getting weirder and weirder,” Angelica says. “Things don’t have to be,” I say, as I close the door behind me. “What are you getting at, Matt Ishida?” Angelica asks slyly as she approaches me. I kiss her and she kisses back. *Sora. Sora is in love with me. I like Sora too.* I break away from Angelica and turn the other way. “What’s wrong?” Angelica asks. “I.... I - ah - I-” Knock, knock. Mimi opens the door with a smile on her face. She says excitedly, “I have other clothes. There are clothes in the closet and I swear that they are meant for us. I mean now I don’t have to wear that long dress or tall heels.” “Really? I want to change so badly,” Angelica says as she heads over to the closet. “Can I come in and see your clothes?” Mimi asks. “Yeah,” Angelica replies eagerly. I sigh in relief and say, “I’m going downstairs to get a drink of water.” “Okay, see you later,” Angelica says without looking up as she and Mimi look through the closet. *I must be losing my mind. I can’t even kiss Angelica anymore. Why did Sora have to tell me that? Now old feelings for her are coming back. This is so confusing. I am under so much stress that it is making me go crazy. Not only is this dilemma bothering me, but I feel kind of nervous about Angelica having a crest. Why would she have the Crest of Death? What could that mean? Why did Gennai seem to be referring to Angelica while he was explaining earlier?* I turn over and look at Angelica that sleeps beside me. She has a small smile on her face and a strand of hair is covering part of it. Every time she breathes, the hair blows up a bit and then falls down again. *I’ve got too cool it. I have to go to sleep.* As I settle down, Angelica begins to stir. She sits straight up and looks confused. She pulls the blanket off her and stands up. She whispers, “Death. Death is mine. I can control it. It is my gift.” I lay there, too shocked to say anything. Angelica walks towards the window and presses her hand against it. The long, black night gown that was provided to her covers her body to her toes. Her blonde hair falls loosely down her back. “I can control it,” Angelica whispers softly. “I won’t let anyone get hurt. I can control that too. Matt will be safe. I can’t lose him. I love him too much. I care for all these people in this house even though I don’t know them well. I have a link to all of them.” “You do know I’m awake, right?” I ask nervously. “I know lots of things,” Angelica replies. “I know lots of things too. What is all this talk about you being able to control death?” “It is nothing really. But getting back to you. I know that you love Sora,” Angelica says softly as she turns around. “I love you,” I whisper. “You love her too,” Angelica says. “But how...” “How did I know? Like I said, I know a lot of things. More than you think,” Angelica explains. “What’s going to happen?” I ask quietly. “I’m going to move into the room beside Mimi’s and stay there for a while. Look at that, my clothes have already been transported there. See, it is fate,” Angelica replies with a smile. She walks up to me and places a soft kiss on my cheek. “I’ll see you tomorrow morning.” I stand there, dumbfounded, watching Angelica pick up her crest and walk out of the room. I still stand after five minutes. Knock, knock. I jerk my head off the pillow and say, “Come in.” “Morning Matt, Angelica I - where is Angelica?” Mimi asks happily as she walks into the room. I shrug. “Did she already get up this morning?” Mimi asks. “I’m right here Mimi,” Angelica says as she comes and stands next to Mimi. “Oh hi. I wasn’t expecting you up already. Do you have a blue shirt that I can borrow?” Mimi asks. “I think so. Come to my room and we’ll check,” Angelica replies as she walks away. “Angelica, your room is here,” Mimi says with a confused face. “No it isn’t,” Angelica’s voice calls. I shrug and put the pillow over my head. Mimi shuts the door without saying anything. After a few minutes, I slowly climb out of bed and get dressed in some clean clothes that are provided. I make sure my hair isn’t that bad and then open the door and head downstairs for breakfast. I enter the kitchen where Tai, Sora, Joe, and Mimi sit. They all stare at me uneasily, especially Sora. “What?” I ask grumpily as I sit down. “Nothing,” Tai replies and clears his throat. “It isn’t obvious you guys know since Mimi is sitting right there,” I say, motioning to Mimi. “I’m sorry,” Mimi whispers. “Save it. I’m not mad,” I say as I stand up and walk out of the room. I walk back upstairs and into my room. I fling myself on the bed and swallow the lump in my throat that is forming. I bite my lip so that I won’t cry. I’m not sure how long I’ve been laying here, but it has been a while because I can hear everyone downstairs laughing. Knock, knock. “Come in,” I say. Sora walks in without looking at me and closes the door behind her. She turns to me, wiping away tears, and asks, “Is it my fault you guys broke up?” “Why did you tell Angelica that you love me?” I ask angrily. “I didn’t tell her that. I thought you might have and that is why you broke up,” Sora answers in confusion. “You didn’t tell her? I didn’t either. How did she know? Last night it was so weird. I woke up and so did Angelica. She was saying that she could control death. I thought that she didn’t know I was awake, but I was proved wrong. She said she knew a lot about me. She then confessed that she knew that you love me,” I explain as I stand up and cross my arms. “So why would it matter to her if I love you? I mean of course it matters, but that shouldn’t mean she should break up with you. I’m the one who feels it, not you.” “I guess I wasn’t being very clear. Somehow she knew that I love you,” I say. “You love me?” Sora asks in a whisper. “Yeah. I told you, I have loved you since s long as I can remember,” I reply, looking away. “I’m so sorry, Matt. If I knew, things might have been different,” Sora says. “Sora, you can’t keep dating Tai if you don’t love him. That isn’t fair to him,” I say. “I already broke up with him,” Sora says. “When?” I ask. “The night after I confessed to you about my feelings. He says he understands so we haven’t really been acting any different because we are still friends,” Sora replies. “He’s okay with you liking me?” I ask in confusion. “No. I haven’t told him that I love you. I just told him that I didn’t have the feeling of marriage love, but more of sisterly and brotherly love,” Sora answers. “Oh,” I say as I take a step towards Sora. Sora takes a step towards me and stares at me. I also take another step and put my arms around Sora’s waist. I lean down and kiss Sora softly on the lips. The door opens and Tai says, “Hey Matt, Gennai wants to speak with us. You b-” Tai stops dead and his eyes widen. Sora and I quickly pull away and stare back. “I thought you were my friend, Matt,” Tai says sadly as he shuts the door. Sora walks out of my room and I follow her downstairs. We go into the living room and wait until the others come. Finally, everyone is here, including Gennai. “I have some training for you to do this morning,” Gennai says. “Training? I thought you said we are supposed to relax?” Mimi asks in a whiny voice. “This is a form of training. I want you to think about things that you regret or things that make you feel bad,” Gennai explains as he walks out of the room. “Come on, Matt. We have a few things to talk about,” Tai says coldly as he walks out of the room. I take a deep breath and follow him. I can feel everyone’s eyes on me as I leave the room. I walk upstairs and follow Tai to his room, shutting it behind us. “I’m sorry,” I whisper. “I’m guessing that you know Sora and I broke up. I now understand why you and Angelica aren’t together anymore. You’ve fallen in love with Sora, haven’t you?” Tai asks coldly. “I’ve been in love with Sora for a long time,” I reply. “That’s why you stopped hanging around us. Right?” I nod shamefully. “You said something to Sora to make her break up with me, didn’t you?” Tai asks accusingly. “No Tai. Sora came to me a few nights ago confessing that she loves me,” I answer truthfully. “You’re lying,” Tai says, turning away. “Believe what you want, but I’m telling the truth. I’m really sorry, Tai. I truly am,” I say sincerely. “Does Angelica know?” Tai asks. “Yes. That’s why she left my room last night. Somehow she knew about us so she left in the middle of the night. Sora didn’t tell her and neither did I,” I reply. “Matt, I guess I’m okay with this,” Tai says. He takes a deep breath and says, “Go ahead and date Sora.” “I don’t know if we are going to date,” I say. “Why wouldn’t you?” Tai asks. “Angelica and I haven’t broken up. Everyone thinks we have, but that isn’t true. She told me to chose between them, and that isn’t easy,” I explain. “Rough. Look Matt, I still want us to be friends,” Tai says with a smile. “Me too,” I say. “Now that that is settle, let’s go downstairs and do whatever Gennai wants us to do,” Tai says as he leads me out of the room. We walk into the living room to find everyone sitting in a circle, quiet with their legs crossed. Sora opens her eyes and smiles at Tai, who returns the smile, to me. I smile back and take a seat between T.K. and Tai. I shrug at Tai and we both close our eyes. *Things to think about. Well one regret is not telling Angelica about Sora. I wish she didn’t think of it herself. I’ll tell her I’m sorry later. Another regret is about not telling Tai. Oh well, at least we’ll be friends still. Now about choosing between them. Who should I chose: Sora or Angelica? This is so frustrating.* “I think we have had enough time to think,” Gennai says. I open my eyes and look around. “Matt and I just got here,” Tai says. “I know. The whole purpose of this activity was so that you two could go talk. Now that everything is settled, go have fun and enjoy your day,” Gennai replies with a smile. “Way to go Matt, Tai,” Mimi says sarcastically as she rolls her eyes. “Now what are you two been fighting about?” “You’re using present tense, Mimi. It’s in the past,” I reply. “Oh, sorry,” Mimi says quietly. *I can’t sleep. I hate when that happens!* I sit up and stand up. I put on a shirt and walk out of my room. I walk downstairs and into the kitchen to get myself a drink. *I wonder why Gennai wants us to relax so much? Normally he would make a big deal out of these sort of situations, but he seems very confident about it. Why don’t we need our digimon?* “Simple questions get simple answers.” I turn around to see Angelica walk into the kitchen. She takes a glass and pours herself a glass of water. “Why are you acting so strange?” I ask. “I’m not. You are the one who is,” Angelica replies calmly. “Look, you have a right to be pissed off of me. I still haven’t chosen and my head hurts thinking about it. That’s why I’m down here,” I explain. “I’m not mad at you. I love you too much to be upset. I’m down here to break up with you so that you can be happy with Sora,” Angelica says happily. “Why would you do that? Don’t you love me?” I ask in disbelief. “Of course I love you. That is why I’m breaking up with you. I know that you love me, but you love Sora more. I want you to be happy so I’m doing this,” Angelica answers. “I’m sorry,” I say shamefully. “Don’t be, Matt,” Angelica says as she sets her glass in the sink and walks away. “Hold on, I have one more question. How can you read my mind?” “Who says I’m reading your mind? I just came in here and you looked confused so I’m guessing that you have a lot on your mind. I can’t read minds, Matt,” Angelica replies slyly as she walks out of the kitchen. *She is so weird. Why is she acting like this? Can she read my mind? It seemed like she could.* ************************************* Part 4 “Everyone having a good time?” Gennai asks as he walks into the kitchen. “Definitely. This is so relaxing,” Mimi replies happily. “I agree. I can’t even imagine us fighting right now,” Kari says. “Good. I’ll come back later,” Gennai says with a smile. “Hold on. Why do you want us to relax so much?” I ask, sitting up. “Why shouldn’t I?” Gennai asks. “Because-” “Matt, don’t start. I don’t want you to ruin it,” Mimi says sternly. I roll my eyes and sigh as I lay back down on the floor. “Morning,” Angelica says as she and Sora walk into the room. “What were you two doing together?” I ask. “Calm down. We were just visiting,” Angelica replies with a smile. “Matt, why are you so tense this morning?” T.K. asks. “Whatever,” I answer as I stand up and walk out of the room. “Where are you going?” Tai asks as I meet him in the hallway. “To my room,” I reply. “Gennai wants to talk to everyone so come on,” Tai says as he motions for me to follow him. I sigh in annoyance and follow Tai back to the living room. I look back to see Izzy, Joe, Emma, Jeremy, Brooke, and James walking into the room. We all take a seat either on the floor on an available couch. I take a seat beside Tai and wait for Gennai to come. “Does everyone have their digivices?” Gennai asks nervously as he walks into the room. “Yeah. I’ve learned that in the Digital World, never to take off your digivice,” Tai replies. “Good. It seems that our enemy has decided to come back a day early. When you touch your digivice with your hand, you’ll be instantly transported to where he is located. Good luck,” Gennai explains. “Well her goes nothing,” Tai says as he touched his digivice. He disappears. “I’m with you big brother,” Kari says as she touches her digivice and disappears. T.K. is the next to go followed by Izzy, Joe, Mimi, Emma, Jeremy, James, Brooke, and Sora. Angelica says, “Go on.” “Why don’t you, too?” I ask. “I will in a minute. I want to be last,” Angelica replies nervously. “Fine,” I say as I touch my digivice. As I touch it, I feel very strange and confused in a way. Then I am suddenly in the middle of the forest, looking at everyone else. “What do we do now?” Emma asks. “Wait for Angelica,” I reply. “What’s taking her so long?” Tai asks after a few moments. “I don’t know, but I think she was going to talk to Gennai because she was so anxious for me to leave,” I answer. “Weird,” Brooke says. Angelica finally shows up after five minutes. She smiles and says, “Let’s go.” “Where?” Mimi asks. “I know where,” Angelica replies calmly as she walks past me and begins to walk. Tai looks over with a confused face and I shrug and begin to follow her. Tai walks beside me and we follow Sora, Mimi, and Emma who are following Angelica. Everyone else walks behind us. Soon, Angelica stops and so does everyone else. “I know this makes me sound stupid, but why are we stopping?” Mimi asks. “We’re here,” Angelica answers simply. “Where’s here and what should we be looking for?” Joe asks. “Don’t worry about that,” Angelica answers. “Angelica, stop it. What’s wrong with you?” Brooke asks. “Brooke. You are so sweet and innocent,” Angelica states as she smiles at her sister. “You’re scaring me. Way to go Matt, now she’s gone psycho since you broke up with her,” Brooke says sarcastically. “Hey, she broke up with me,” I say. “You two are so cute,” Angelica says with a smile. Her smile fades and she whispers, “I can feel him coming.” “That’s it,” I say in frustration as I walk over to Angelica. I take her by the shoulders and demand, “What is wrong with you? It’s like you’re psychic or something. You know what I think, feel, and it is driving me crazy. Why are you like this? What happened to you? You’ve been different ever since we’ve come to the Digital World. Stop acting like this.” “Don’t worry about me,” Angelica replies with a smile. I sigh in frustration and let go of her. “Matt’s right. What’s your problem?” Brooke asks as she walks over to us. “The two people I care for the most doubting me. Don’t doubt me. I know what I am doing,” Angelica says with a smile. “What do you mean you know what you are doing?” Izzy asks. “It’ll all come together. You’ll see,” Angelica replies. She turns around and says, “He is near. He knows that I’m waiting.” I take her shoulders and say, “Talk to me, Angelica. Don’t shut me away. I don’t understand any of this. How does he know you?” Angelica frowns and states, “He’s here.” “Where?” Mimi asks anxiously. “Right there,” Angelica points ahead. “I don’t see anything. Are you sure?” Tai asks. “He’ll come into view in five seconds. Five, four, three, two, one. Now can you see him?” Everyone gasps, including me, as a digimon who sort of looks like a cross between Puppetmon and Myotismon comes into view. He has a cape like Myotismon’s, and the fangs and yellow hair. He has wood sticking out of him as if he was being staked like a vampire. He smiles wickedly. “I don’t see how we cannot use our digimon,” Joe says. “I’m right here. You need me to take over the world, but you won’t be able to,” Angelica says boldly. “Oh my gosh, you are the girl he needs to take over the world!” Sora exclaims. Angelica doesn’t reply and says, “I’m proud to say you’ll never be able to use me.” “Oh, but the only way for me not to use you is if you die,” the digimon says evilly. “Exactly. If I die, you can’t hurt both worlds,” Angelica says with a smile. “Are you saying you’re going to kill yourself?” I ask in a whisper. “Yes,” Angelica replies with a smile. She explains, “If I die, he can’t use me. It is the only way. I know it is my fate because I have the Crest of Death. You may think that death is bad, but for me, it is a step forward in my life.” “Angelica, you can’t go!” Brooke cries out as she hugs her sister and begins to cry. “But I must. I want you, Matt, and everybody else to live a happy life,” Angelica says as she releases from their hug and gives her sister a kiss on the forehead. “James, take care of her for me.” James nods speechlessly. Angelica walks over to me and kisses me on the cheek saying, “I love you with all my heart and I want you to be happy. I will always watch over you and Brooke.” “You can’t go. I love you too much. You are one of my best friends,” I say with tears running down my face. “Don’t cry for me,” Angelica says as she wipes the tears away. She says to Sora, “Take care of him and make him happy.” “You are one of the most beautiful people I have ever known,” Sora whispers. “I will always treasure those words. I also hope you guys will all have beautiful lives. I know I have and will in a different place,” Angelica says, motioning to everyone else who are either crying or about to. “You can’t go. You’re only seventeen,” I whisper. “So what? I have known this is my fate since the minute my crest appeared on me. At least I won’t die a virgin,” Angelica says with a smile. Her face turns to determination and she turns around and walks away. She says, “You will never be able to lose me because my crest will bring me out of this world. After all, I have the Crest of Death.” As she says these words, a white light comes from the crest and goes through the screaming digimon. The digimon disappears and Angelica falls to the ground. “Angelica!” Brooke screams as she runs out of Jeremy and James’ grip and over to Angelica. I run over too and Brooke and I fall to our knees and begin to weep for Angelica. Her eyes are closed and she isn’t breathing. ************************************** I set down my backpack and sit down in front of the tombstone. I curl my knees to my chest and rest my head on them. I read the words on the tombstone over and over again: Here lays Angelica Roasi. Beloved daughter, sister, and friend. We will miss you and thank your sacrifice so that we could live. I shake my head and cry silently as I stare at the grave that has been here for three weeks. The funeral took place two weeks ago. Us Digidestined chose the inscription even though Angelica’s parents were confused by it, they didn’t mind. I haven’t seen Brooke since that day, but T.K. told me she has been crying non stop. T.K. knows that I do the same thing. “Hi Matt.” I look up at Sora as she takes a seat beside me. She takes my hand and leans her head against my shoulder. I bite my lip to make myself stop crying. “She was the best friend that anyone could ever have. We’ll always remember her. You and I will get through this, together,” Sora whispers. ************************************ Author’s Note: Wasn’t that sad? I think it was pretty cute. I wasn’t planning on it to be an angst, but then I thought of it and it sounded perfect. Fear not, there is a sequel cooking up as we speak. E-mail me at digimon_mattlover@hotmail.com
