| Chancellor Valorum was the able leader of the Republic. Under all of the stress inflicted upon him from his diplomatic role, sometimes Valorum needed a break. One such occasion came, and the Supreme Chancellor decided to attend The Race of Tatooine. He had planned to sit with the normal crowd and blend right in. Unfortunately a spy in the Republic notified Jabba the Hutt that the Supreme Chancellor would be in attendance and Jabba quickly prepared a balcony seat for Valorum, right beside the other important figures of the galaxy. Valorum was heavily guarded during the exciting event, but he enjoyed himself nonetheless. He asked for his face to be blurred on all of the cameras so that the whole galaxy wouldn't know where he was and come to Tatooine to see him. His request was honored, and not many citizens of the galaxy knew that he had even been to Tatooine recently. Shortly after his return to Coruscant he was almost assassinated, saved in time by Jedi Masters Qui-Gon Jinn and Luminara Undulli. He quickly became involved with a crisis concerning the Trade Federation and their request for taxation of Free Trade Routes. Shortly after the crisis began, Supreme Chancellor Valorum was voted out of office by the Senate and replaced by Senator Palpatine. Valorum may no longer be popular in the Republic, but that doesn't mean that SGF won't be seeing more of him later on. |
