Sept 11th Protest: This was the date of the "Dr Laura" show's first local airing.
When: Noon to 1:00p, Monday Sept. 11th
Where: KPIX - 855 Battery St., S.F.
Report: It Went Well! There were about 125 people in attendance with some media coverage and a lot of energy. There were several wonderful speakers with inspiring messages. Five individuals respectfully blocked one of the entrances to KPIX at the end of the event. They were escorted away by the police and released very shortly after. *Protest Signs! You can download and print them from your computer, paste them to a cardboard backing, and then staple-gun that to a picket stick. These will open in your BMP program. Some Notable Facts:
-Dr. Laura has a PhD in Physiology, not Psychology, making her attacks unqualified as a "Dr."

-TV has a stronger influential power than radio. Its messages are received by millions more and taken in more easily through multiple media.

-Preaching intolerance and mis-information about gay people builds upon and produces anti-gay hate. This divides us and is deadly.

First off, About Us:
To us, Dr. Laura's rhetoric is clearly anti-gay. It promotes harmful, often stereotypical, ignorance about our community and our lifestyles. The effects of such ignorance cause severe economic and emotional harm to us, our friends, and our families. We feel that allowing this to continue and to worsen through the mass media is a denial of our humanity and a disservice to society. All people suffer and will continue to suffer from our oppression and social adversity.

We believe that Dr Laura's anti-gay rhetoric is highly irresponsible. We are peacefully protesting her upcoming TV show, emphasizing that advertisers and sponsors take responsibility for their investments sooner than later.

We do NOT wish to impinge upon Dr Laura's right to free speech. We feel that her particular form of speech is inappropriate for the mass media, and highly unfair. Radio and television access are not rights. They are rewards that Dr. Laura fails to earn by being mean and hypocritical.

We wish to get out the message that there will be no profit from prejudice.
