Runabouts weren’t designed as fighters but they aren’t entirely defenseless, The Danube Class is equipped with 2 type 4 Phaser arrays which aren’t the strongest in the world but they do a pretty good job of targeting and that can make up for the weakness of the System also Runabouts are equipped with Twin Mini Photon Torpedo Launchers which can fire in 10 second intervals, this wont do much on large classes of ships but that combined with its speed and maneuverability can help the Danube hold its own until reinforcements arrive .

Above and to the left is a runabout with a sensor pod attached, as you can see they are attached to a rack on the top of the aft section. Sensor pods are used on survey missions they enhance the Danube Class's normal shuttles and provide a longer-range sensor pallet. Weapons pods are attached to Danube Class variants, which are used as fighters, and escorts to small convoys they are equipped with advanced Phaser arrays and 2 mini photon torpedo launchers. Supply Pods are used for transferring large amounts of supplies in the case that they cannot be transported to their location or to help repair crews by delivering parts to Zero Gravity work sites. Jamming Pods are used for electronic warfare, they can tap communications, interfere so that messages never get to where they are going or they can also use electromagnetic fields to disrupt electronic devices. Missile Pods are rarely used on Danube Class vessels, they are used for heavy assaults on ground installations and strike missions on large orbital stations.
