Beginnings back in 1989 Raymond Smith answered the call from God to preach. After Graduating from Piedmont Bible College and being ordained in 1991 he set out to found a church. But not just any church, it had to be a church with a Sure Foundation (Isaiah 28:16). Sure Foundation Baptist Church started meeting in 1991. Our first home was a small rented building in an older, industrial part of town. But God blessed! From just twelve people the congregation grew, and grew, and GREW! God was busy working in that little church and many souls were saved. One of them was the preacher's own son, Rodney. Growth By 1994 our church family had outgrown that humble building. A new, larger building was built on seven acres at the intersection of Highways US 220 and NC 62. This new location is just outside of town, but still easy to find. The new building was first used on June 5th of 1994. And God continued to bless! The church grew so much that Rev. Randy VanMeter came on board as Youth Pastor. Rodney Smith graduated from Greensboro Bible College and was ordained to into the ministry in October of 1997. Soon after, the Church voted him in as Associate Pastor. And the church grew! Soon, we had outgrown this building, too! The Present On June 1st of 1997 we moved into our latest expansion. This new wing boasts a 500-seat sanctuary with sound and video capabilities, a baptistery (finally!), and even a balcony for overflow! It has a fully equipped nursery with a separate tot room. The preacher even got his very own office! The old sanctuary was converted into classrooms and the old choir loft is used for choir practice and Vacation Bible Schools. Below the Sanctuary is a large fellowship room with a big kitchen and separate sound and video capabilities. It is just right for receptions and potluck dinners. The adult Sunday School class meets there, too. Our people have grown, too. It is a very rare Sunday when we don't have at least one new visitor. We have both men's and women's softball teams. The church folks do all the yard work, cleaning, and maintenance. The missions program has grown almost as dramatically as the congregation. Yes, God is still blessing! The Future Some of our plans for the future include a major outreach to the lost in our area, dramatically enlarging the missions program, a bigger bus ministry, resuming the radio ministry, even a separate gym with classrooms. |
