I have a huge chest full but its full of every color and piece the lego company ever created and im just trying to get gray pieces so i can build a larger castle. I looked at a couple of composer in the classical section (there wasn't specifically an opera section) and didn't find much. Do you know of a company that's doing this (well) with opera? As part of studying voice (soprano), I've made some cassette tapes from CD's borrowed from the library. Absolutely the most complete and critical list on the web. Compliments. I've built up a modest opera collection the past months with your list in my hands, among others (I used the grammophone-lis as well for balance). In most cases I concurr with your choices, but the live mono registrations are, I think, strictly for connaisseurs (the Gala stuff). I got the Sills Anna Bolena (remastered) for something like $20 over here (Holland). Do wonder what you think of more recent releases (Bartoli for instance)and the Naxos series (superbudget prices, but good quality - check out the Flying Dutchman). And I miss Weill and Schreker on your list - not interested in these guys? J. |

Have taken your recommndations on some to mostly great satisfaction. The Kempe "Lohengrin" is exceptional. Already hav many of your top choices which are also mine. Some additional Verdi considerations would be the Callas "Ballo in Maschera" (recent EMI series - I find it gripping) and Muti "Reguiem" (older EMI with Philharmonia - completely satisfactory interpretation or me). Also what about the Philips Classics Rossini series (Otello, Elisabetta, Mose in Egitto, etc.). I have some of them from LP that I love. THANKS! |
