RESEARCH PROPOSAL

Title: A Review Of Incorporating Principle Of Acting Onto Four Legged Character Animation.

Abstract: Acting is one of the most important elements in film and animation. In order to show the unique characteristic in character animation, principles of acting are most needed by creating a lively, interesting and attractive character. A lot of character animation had been produced base on human formation such as Mickey mouse, Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry. These character are amazing but they may lack of their own original uniqueness. But compared to four legged characters, the animations are more convincing and interesting. This is because they have their own unique movement and acting which is more attractive than others. Therefore, my main task is to explore on principles of acting and apply it onto four legged character - dog's characteristics by producing a dog animation such as movement and acting based on the characteristic and behaviour of dog. In order to gain insights into the realm of dogs characteristic, a case study on principles of acting is needed, which particularly can be apply to the characteristics such as movements, poses, gestures of four legged character. The output of this study method may cause several changes in ordinary animation production process, which may generally makes the animation as interesting as possible.

Thesis issues: Animating Four legged character is more complex and challenging than two legged character. Besides that, each of them also has its own characteristic which is unique and original as well. Morever, by incorporating principles of acting onto it, the animation will be more convincing because it is far more interesting and attractive.

Keywords: Animation, Principles Of Acting, Four Legged Character, Dog

Aim: To achieve an effective animation of four legged character - dog who has its own characteristic compare to other four legged animal

Objectives:
1.To analyse the principles of acting.
2.To identify how to incorporating principles of acting onto four legged character.
3.To analyse the structure of dog and its behaviour.
4.To identify the movement, gesture, poses, acting of dog.
5.To obtained adequate knowledge in area of research.
6.To apply the learned knowledge into my final animation project.
7.To experiment on different style of character movement rather than stiff human character movement.
8.To identify the purpose of dog's unique acting, reaction with other things.

Thesis Development:
1.Study of principles of acting.
2.Full Study of dog's characteristic including its behavior, movement and so on.
3.Study of characteristic of the four legged characters in various animation.
4.Gather artwork of character design, animations and information about dog.
5.Identify the preliminary considerations and key factors that affect the characteristic and animation of the character.
6.Observation, discussion and evaluation on real dog's movement and cartoon dog's movement.

Research relation to the Design Project Proposal:
The output of this research, which is incorporating principles of acting onto four legged character animation - dog in order to achieve convincing characteristic in animation.
The research/thesis helps highlights the incorporation of principles of acting onto four legged character - dog animation in digital animation film. Process such as planning, executing rough boards, conceptual illustrations, storyboarding and many more are part of the information from the research that can be refer to as a reference guide for me to execute my design project successfully.
In addition, the research also includes information that is useful for the development of the design project. Information such as reviews, reference books from authors, information from the Internet, real time observations and many more will help me further understand the necessarily steps in developing my design project.

Hypothesis: I personally felt that by incorporating principles of acting onto four legged character animation, an animation will be more convincing and attractive as well compared to two legged character.
