On Thursday, August 26th, 2004, the Gainesville Vols, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Camp 373, Pearl River County, MS, erected a Mississippi Dept. of Archives & History-approved historical marker honoring their namesakes -- the Gainesville Vols, Co. G, 3rd MS Infantry -- at the Welcome Center on I-10 in Hancock County, MS, near the site of Old Gainesville (formerly the county seat and now an extinct community). The MS Dept. of Transportation graciously assisted in placing the marker. This was the culmination of a nearly ten-year effort by the Camp. The marker will be seen by 50,000+ visitors every month! An official dedication ceremony for the marker will be held in
on the
future
(date to
be
determined); the public will be invited to attend. For information on your Confederate "Heritage of Honor," please visit our website at www.geocities.com/scvcamp373.
