AN INTERVIEW WITH...
THE ROOLETTES.

SO WHO IS IN THE ROOLETTES AND WHAT DOES EACH MEMBER DO?
j: ed (guitar) fio (bass & vox) jimmy (drum & vox)
HOW DID YOU ALL MEET AND COME TO FORM A BAND TOGETHER?
j: we met in italy a couple of years ago and started to play together very soon afterwards
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC?
j: rock n roll
WHO ARE YOUR INFLUENCES?
j: i would say ramones, gn'r, 60's girl groups, rock n rolll, garage punk bands
DO YOU WEAR SOCKS IN BED?
f: never
e:depends whose bed I am in.
j: he sleeps in his shoes sometimes
OUT OF ALL THE BANDS YOU HAVE PLAYED WITH, WHO HAVE YOU MOST ENJOYED PLAYING WITH AND WHY?
f: Mr.Airplane Man
j: me too.. the dirty water club night we did with the parkinsons and mr airplane man was fun. and the wild weekend in spain had some great bands too
BET YOU'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO TOURING WITH DANKO JONES?
j: its gonna be fantastic.. we are all looking forward to it alot. we're in germany with danko and the bronx for 9 dates in mid april
e: damn right - hopefully it will both fun and fruitful
HOW TO UK CROWDS COMPARE WITH CROWDS IN THE REST OF EUROPE AND THE WORLD?
e: Depends on the gig - anybody who says one country's audiences are better than another is talking rubbish.
j: we always enjoy playing anywhere, but you do sometimes see people act differently in different countries. we had alot of fun in sweden where it was all kids and they invaded the stage..
f: in the Uk they always stay far from the stage and are shy to move, in italy they want to get as close as possible to see you
DO YOU GET NERVOUS BEFORE GOING ON STAGE?
f: never
j: just adrenalin, no nerves
e: no - I get nervous before I come off stage.
HOW DO YOU STRUCTURE YOUR SET?
j: try to spread the songs out that me or fio sing so it is varied and make the songs and rhytms flow together to make the whole set cool
WHICH TRACK DO YOU MOST ENJOY PERFORMING?
f: "1000 times", it is the first song we ever played together
j: at the moment, maybe "gimme some fun"... but it changes all the time. i dont have any i dont enjoy playing
WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU DO AFTER A GIG?
e: get as far away from other people as possible
f: smoking a marlboro
WILL YOU BE PLAYING ANY OF THE SUMMER FESTIVALS?
j: we are lined up for a couple in germany (26/6 chemnitz, 24/7 dortmund)
and will be announcing a few more soon too
WHAT IS THE MOST SPINAL TAP MOMENT YOU HAVE HAD ON TOUR?
j: maybe when we played in cologne- me and fio went to a bar after the show and from the doorway saw all these big blonde hairstyles and sexy clothes so we went inside....but as we sat down and ordered drinks we realised they were all transvestites....
e: getting lost in the back stage area at the High Stool in Limerick
WHAT BAND EXPERIENCE WOULD YOU LIKE TO RE LIVE?
e: the aftershow party after our camden palace gig last year.
j: the great gigs are always the moments i look back on and enjoy.. it would be great to be able to actually see us play, instead of being stuck behind the drums!
WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR POCKETS RIGHT NOW?
f: my lighter, not havin one drives me nuts
e: nothing - I just got out of the shower
YOU'VE JUST RELEASED YOUR ALBUM. TELL US ABOUT IT.
e: its round and made of plastic.
j: its our first album so things are exciting and going very well.. it has 13 songs, all originals, and is availble from good record shops or online now. it has a good raw and fresh sound that we are pleased with.
HOW HAS IT GONE DOWN WITH THE MUSIC PRESS?
j: pretty good so far...we;ve had alot of very positive press and reveiws
e: in uk, not bad - in germany very f@cking well, ditto japan, america, canada, ireland and italy.
IT WAS RELEASED THROUGH A JAPANESE LABEL. ARE YOU BIG IN JAPAN?
e: apparantly so - we have not toured there yet so we dont know exactly how big
j: i dont know that we are big...but we are doing ok so far, and hopefully we will be getting out there to play within the next few months
WOULD YOU EVER CONSIDER DOING ANY COVERS?
e: we already do - "its so easy" by Guns n Roses. we only play it live though and only if its a really good audience.
j: i would be wary of doing one on an album though.. maybe as a b-side, but i think they are better only when you play live.. and if you make the song interesting or differnet
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT YOU COULD MAKE AS A BAND?
j: i want to be rich beyond my wildest dreams..
e: to be still going when our combined age is greater than keith richards age
j: we shouldve split up about 12 years ago then, shouldnt we?
WHICH DO YOU ENJOY DOING THE MOST� WRITING SONGS, RECORDING THEM OR PLAYING THEM LIVE?
f: Writing songs and playin�em live
j: playing live
WHAT WAS THE LAST GIG YOU WENT TO, OTHER THAN YOUR OWN?!
e: a band called Shuffle - at the garage, London. They are freinds of ours, damned fine stuff.
j: we go to quite alot of gigs around london and see new bands
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE SUBJECT AT SCHOOL?
f: none

WHAT FIRST MADE YOU WANT TO PICK UP A GUITAR AND JOIN/FORM A BAND?
f: When you have a guitar in your hands you got all the girls around you
j: i always wanted to do this
e: becoming aware of the existence of slash
WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR ANYONE THINKING ABOUT STARTING UP A BAND?
f: You don�t just become a musician, so if you are crap, please do something else
j: practice makes perfect. be focused and dont compromise yourself too much... but most important thing is to have fun and be realistic and enjoy yourself
e: ask yourself - do ya feel lucky - well do ya punk?
