AN INTERVIEW WITH...
MARIANN FROM SURFEROSA.

SO WHO IS SURFEROSA AND WHAT DOES EACH MEMBER DO?
surferosa are 4 guys and one chick making music together. Kjetil (guitar), Andy (synth), JR (drums), Ziggy (bass) and Mariann (vocal, synth)
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC?
it's thrashpop.
WHO ARE YOUR INFLUENCES?
Each member of Surferosa shares a variety of different musical refferences, such as Billy Talent, iggy Pop and The Stooges, Iron maiden, David Bowie, Saga, etc. It's hard to pinpoint a certain band, artist or even genre. We like to think that's what makes our music different.
WHERE DID THE NAME SURFEROSA COME FROM?
Surfe Rosa comes orginally from the classic Pixies album, that's were we got the name from. Apparently it's also an _expression among surfers.
WHAT IS THE MOST SPINAL TAP MOMENT SURFEROSA HAVE EVER HAD ON TOUR?
Once we got lost in the basement going from the dressingroom to the stage. Really embarassing !
HOW WERE THE RECENT UK SHOWS?
The last UK-gigs went really well. It seems like the Brits are ready to be entertained by surferosa's glamorous   fucked up synth-punk! HOW DO UK CROWDS COMPARE WITH CROWDS ELSEWHERE IN EUROPE?
UK crowds elsewhere but London are very friendly and they show much appreciation for a band like us. We haven't played much else in europe yet, so we can't really compare it . We played in Cologne two years ago. The crowd started jumping up and down, so I guess they liked it!
DO YOU GET NERVOUS BEFORE GOING ON STAGE?
Very rarely. Sometimes before live TV-performances, big venues or stadiums we get a little nervous. We don't give a shit though, while entering the stage.
HOW DO YOU STRUCTURE YOUR SET?
The set is very dynamic. Starting with Disco Love and building itself   up to climax through Panorama. Often we do an encore containing 2 songs, mostly Bim Bam Bom and Digital Audiowork Situation.
WHICH TRACK DO YOU MOST ENJOY PERFORMING?
That would be Bim Bam Bom.
WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU DO AFTER A GIG?
We go to the dressingroom , get something to drink, and grab a towel.
DO YOU EVER GET HOMESICK WHILE ON TOUR?
Certainly.
IS IT DISHEARTENING ON THE NIGHTS FEW PEOPLE TURN UP TO SEE YOU?
No matter how many people turns up to the gig, u still have to play like it's your last gig! That's very important!
WILL YOU BE PLAYING AT ANY OF THE SUMMER FESTIVALS?
Hopefully we'll be doing a lot of festivals both in Scandinavia and the UK this summer. Our booking agency in UK are working very hard for us to make it happen. Download on June 4th is booked, in addition to some small Norwegian festivals.
MUSICALLY AND LYRICALLY, WHICH OF THE SONGS YOU'VE WRITTEN IS YOUR FAVOURITE? mariann is very happy with the lyrics on Neon Commando, since she gets to speak Japanese. Musically we would say that Saturday Night is very succesfull musically, being written espescially for the re-release of the album, thus showing a possible new musically direction within the band. Bim Bam Bom is also a favourite, originally being a 10 minute prog-pop song..
WOULD YOU EVER CONSIDER DOING ANY COVERS?
Actually we covered Hong Kong Garden by Siouxe and the banshees a couple of years ago.
We might do some covers again in the future. It depends on wether we love the song, u know!
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT YOU COULD MAKE AS A BAND?
That would be playing Wembley Stadium, or maybe playing at the Superbowl..
DO YOU WEAR SOCKS IN BED?
I don't think anyone in the band wears socks in bed, exepct when we get really drunk and fall asleep with the clothes on.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR POCKETS RIGHT NOW?
lots of junk.
YOU HAVE A NEW SINGLE, 'LUCKY LIPSTICK'. WHAT IS THE TRACK ABOUT?
girls, girls, girls.
IT IS TAKEN FROM THE ALBUM 'SHANGHAI MY HEART'. WHERE DID THE TITLE OF THE ALBUM COME FROM?
Mariann's really into Asian culture and stuff. The title means basically thet we wanna go to Shanghai and get fucked by the chinese.
ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT IT'S RELEASE?
Yeah, of course! We hope it does really well!
DO YOU TRY AND ENCAPSULATE YOUR LIVE SOUND IN THE STUDIO?
Not really. We wanted to adapt the live -energy on to disc, surely, but at the same time also add a really good studio production. I think we achieved what we were aiming for; making a rock album with a futuristic sound.
IS IT TRUE SOME OF YOUR TRACKS FEATURE ON THE FILM 'BARE BEA'?
Yeah, many of the album tracks feature in the movie.
HOW DID THAT COME ABOUT?
I think the director Petter N�ss heard the album through his daughter, or something. Apparently he liked it, hopefully thinking our music might add something to his picture.
IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE BETWEEN A LIFETIME OF FREE AND AVAILABLE SEX OR A LIFETIME OF FREE AND AVAILABLE BOOZE AND FAGS, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

DOES EATING CHEESE GIVE YOU NIGHTMARES?
Yeah, has that happened to you to?? Scary shit, man! Mariann's addicted to cheese, though. She just cant get enough of it!
WHAT FIRST MADE YOU WANT TO PICK UP A GUITAR AND JOIN/FORM A BAND?
to get laid.
WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR ANYONE THINKING ABOUT STARTING UP A BAND?
Just have fun. And start gigging as soon as possible. Remmember to always keep a positive attitude towards the music and the fans, and success will follow!!
