AN INTERVIEW WITH...
TERRY FROM SEPTEMBRE.

SO WHO IS IN SEPTEMBRE AND WHAT DOES EACH MEMBER DO?
terry-vocals, guitar, piano. Sammy lee - drums.  jim - bass.
HOW DID YOU ALL MEET AND COME TO FORM A BAND TOGETHER?
in a shoe shop. We are all size 5 and felt a bond over a pair of sandals.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC?
well it's slightly heavier than whitney but a little less heavy than britney.
WHO ARE YOUR INFLUENCES?
see above.
WHERE DID THE NAME SEPTEMBRE COME FROM?
it's the first initial of everyone I've ever met all joined together and arranged accordingly. I haven't met many people.
WHAT IS THE MAIN DIFFERENCE IN WRITING/CREATING SONGS WHEN IT COMES TO SEPTEMBRE IN RELATION TO YOUR PREVIOUS BANDS?
not much really. But there is no keef in septembre so therefore no samples on top of the pure rock foundation that abides within. Blah blah blahhhh.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SCENES?
keef is a genius.
ANY PLANS FOR A FULL UK HEADLINING TOUR?
not at the moment, maybe soon. We need to have music available first. We're not signed or anything so it's not viable for us right now.
WILL YOU BE PLAYING ANY OF THE SUMMER FESTIVALS?
don't think so. Don't know yet. Maybe. That doesn't help does it!!
DO YOU GET NERVOUS BEFORE GOING ON STAGE?
yes. Very. And because I don't drink the nerves stay with me too.
HOW DO YOU STRUCTURE YOUR SET?
we decide the set just before we go on to play normally. It's the only way to know which songs will be right and which will be wrong.
WHICH TRACK DO YOU MOST ENJOY PERFORMING?
a song called 'wont let go'. I get to raise my voice a little at the end. It feels good.
WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU DO AFTER A GIG?
pick myself up.
IF YOU COULD GO ON TOUR WITH ANY OTHER BAND IN THE WORLD, WHO WOULD IT BE?
right now, I think being able to watch Damien Rice every night would be absolutely amazing. Or Mew. I love Mew.
DOES EATING CHEESE GIVE YOU NIGHTMARES?
I don't eat much cheese. If I ever do, no, it doesn't. Maybe I'm immune to the wrath of cheese. Hmmmm.
MUSICALLY AND LYRICALLY, WHICH OF THE SONGS YOU'VE WRITTEN IS YOUR FAVOURITE?
probably a brand new one which is just piano and voice. It's called 'apostrophe' and it just sums up the last year for me.
WOULD YOU EVER CONSIDER DOING ANY COVERS?
yes but it would have to be the perfect song. Maybe by veruca salt or somebody like that. Or prince.
THE DEBUT EP FROM SEPTEMBRE IS OUT NOW. TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT IT.
it's called "rule 3 : conceal your intentions" and it's a four song ep with tracks recorded in early 2003. It's got a couple of heavy tunes and a couple of different ones.
ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT IT'S RELEASE?
yes I am. Very excited to finally release these songs.
ANY IDEA WHEN THE ALBUM WILL BE OUT?
no idea at all. Watch this space I suppose.
WHAT WAS IT LIKE WORKING WITH ROSS ROBINSON?
it was ok. He's very overrated.
ANY FUNNY STUDIO RELATED STORIES YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE?
most of the fun stuff is unfortunately kinda private and so all I can say is I realised with a shock what some people will do for money!!!
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT YOU COULD MAKE AS A BAND?
oooohhhhh.. Mmmm...  That's up to personal interpretation but for me the most important thing for us to achieve as a band is to record the next album and realise what it's all about.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE TV SHOW AS A CHILD?
well I thought he-man ruled. But street hawk kicked arse too. Fraggles. Baywatch. They were all beauties I suppose. Tv these days is really sad. What the hell is a bloody 'fimble'???  Grrrrrr.
DO YOU WEAR SOCKS IN BED?
god no!!! wellies for me.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR POCKETS RIGHT NOW?
good question.... I have.... 67p in change, some vaseline for my lips, my locker key for work and my ear plugs.  Sorry. Boring wasn't it!!! I wish I had stuff like plane tickets and secret files and loads of great stuff but my pockets aren't very big I'm afraid.
WHAT IS IT LIKE HEARING YOURSELVES ON THE RADIO AND SEEING YOURSELVES IN MAGAZINES ETC?
it's very funny. Especially when I am slagged off! It always makes my heart jump a little if I catch a song on the radio. But normally I know about any magazines and stuff so I have a little time to prepare for the worst!! but it's always hilarious and we all sit around and have a good old laugh at me!
DO YOU FEEL FAMOUS?
what?... No way!!  how could that happen??!!?? I hope I never ever do.
WHICH DO YOU ENJOY DOING THE MOST... WRITING SONGS, RECORDING THEM OR PLAYING THEM LIVE?
I don't know how you could enjoy one and not the others. I suppose the greatest instant buzz is playing a show and feeling like you've given all that you can. Recording takes a while to take shape and that can get really irritating but writing is always great. Just to see how I can push myself a little more each time and to see what's going on in my head each time too.
WHAT ARE YOUR OPINIONS OF THE CURRENT RECORD BUYING PUBLIC?
well, I don't think they are as silly as we are told. But I don't know every single one of them so I can't really comment! all I will say is that we, as a public, are not buying enough Michelle McManus records and that just breaks my heart.
WHAT FIRST MADE YOU WANT TO PICK UP A GUITAR AND JOIN/FORM A BAND?
basically, in a word... Bono. I felt if I could get anywhere near as cool as him I'd be set for life. I'm still trying but constantly falling short of the mark.  Plus girls seem to like boys in bands. And it was the only way I'd ever meet them so I guess I had to do it really.
WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR ANYONE THINKING ABOUT STARTING UP A BAND?
find your drummer and be really nice to him. Luckily I know a few really good ones but they are few and far between... Oh and cover 'wild thing' by the troggs, or anything by therapy? Or the levellers. That's it. That's my advice.
see ya.
