SACK TRICK + SUPPORT. AT YORK FIBBERS. 06/ 12/ 02.
The Hair were the first band of the night. Cant say much about them though because we were stood at the back for them, seeing and hearing very little. Spent part of their set talking with my friend Alexis who I hadnt seen in months. Yorks very own Vetro Baby came next. I really like their name. I spent most of their set looking around the venue to see who was in the nights Sack Trick line up. Was also looking out for glam band Phulid. They were on the guest list but failed to show up. Sack trick are a spoof supergroup. Their line up changes every night. For this gig we had permanent frontman Chris Dale (used to play with iron maidens Bruce Dickinson), Ben Calvert (Vex Red drummer/ ex Kill To This drummer), Bob The Bus Driver, someone from Subvert and Robin Guy (ex Rachel Stamp drummer). Robin left Rachel Stamp at the end of November, just two weeks before this gig. I spoke to him in his dressing room after the gig, while he was getting changed in fact. He wouldnt tell me exactly why he had left the band but assured me that he is still friends with them. He also let slip that he had something big planned for February. He wouldnt tell me what though in case what he has planned doesnt happen. He doesnt want to look stupid. I expect it involves playing the drums though. That is what he does best. Although he also has his own show on Total Rock Radio. They opened with the classic Penguins On The Moon from the album of the same name before their first Kiss cover of the night, Shout It Out Loud taken from the forthcoming Kiss covers album, Sheep In Kiss Make Up. Theyve been making it for two years and it still aint finished. Surely itll be out sometime in 2003. Other Kiss tracks performed included Deuce, Cold Gin and Alcoholic. The rest of the tracks, except one new track called Tigers, were taken from their first two albums, their debut been (Music From) The Mystery Rabbits. It boasts songs such as No Tomatoes and I Play Bass. All of Sack Trick are amazing musicians, especially Ben and Robin who both drummed throughout the gig keeping in perfect time with each other. They also had their own drum solos, which were just brilliant to watch. As we were on our way back to live in the snow, the car suffered a few technical hitches. The engine kind of blew up. There is now a massive hole in it. We had to leave the car parked in a layby about 8 miles from were we live. Luckily a passing Police car saw sparks coming from our car and so followed us to the layby. They breathalised my bro then offered to take us home. It was all rather embarrassing, especially as I was wearing my leopard print mini skirt and eyeliner at the time. I must have looked like some sort of male prostitute. Ah well. Shit happens.
