REUBEN + ENGERICA + ANTIHERO.
AT SCARBOROUGH KAZBAH. 25/ 10/ 03.

Another night, another Reuben gig. This time at the Kazbah in Scarborough. Antihero were first to take to the stage. They opened with possible next single Dont Trust The DJ. It was quickly followed by the fantastic Spitkiss.
Sadly they had to cut their set short due to a late start caused by sound problems. They did still manage to cram 7 songs into their shorter than normal set though including new track Feel Bad Hit Of The Summer and the soon to be classic A Girl Called Pain.
They concluded with Disconnect. Ive not heard one Antihero track that I dont like. Cant wait for the album. The band have pretty much completed it. It should be out in around July next year.
I just hope the album is as good as the live show. They are always so full of energy and nearly always seem to be enjoying themselves. The set wasnt quite as tight as last time I saw them but I expect that is due to the fact that until this gig they hadnt played (music) with each other in 2 weeks. Once again Antihero deserved to be headlining. Once again they werent.
So after the best band of the night came the 2nd best, Engerica (pronounced Eng-ger-ica). The Essex rock band formed in December 2000. Engerica comprises of three individuals in their early twenties: David Gardner (Guitar/Vox), Michael Stuart Webster (Bass Guitar) and Neil-Ross Gregory (Drums).
Their live show is fantastic. Like Antihero, Engerica are full of energy and just sound so fresh. They have some great songs including recent single Trick Or Treat. Not everyone in the crowd was impressed though. One guy made it clear what he thought of the band by shouting abuse at them at the top of his voice. Engerica didnt let it bother them though. Their mix of punk pop guitar rock makes Engerica stand out from any other band around at the moment. They will be huge.
Reuben were way better at this gig than at the Fibbers gig a few nights earlier. They band played better and the crowd were more up for it. The crowd size was again small. Bigger than the Fibbers crowd though.
I think that the set was exactly the same as at Fibbers but as Reuben dont use setlists I cant be totally sure. Highlights again included Lets Stop Hanging Out and debut single Scared Of The Police.  A live version of Scared Of The Police can be found as a B-side on new single Stuck In My Throat.
A few younger members of the crowd, those under the age of 16 had to leave the venue at 11pm. That normally wouldnt be a problem but as the gig started late it meant that on this occasion those that left missed around a third of the Reuben set. The band were genuinely sorry for this even though it wasnt really their fault.
After the gig Jamie was once again waiting outside the venue ready to thank peeps for coming as they left. Bless. You wouldnt get bands like Oasis doing that!!
