AN INTERVIEW WITH...
JAMIE FROM REUBEN.

SO FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW, WHO IS IN REUBEN AND WHAT DOES EACH MEMBER DO?
jon plays bass and sings.  jamie plays guitar and sings.  guy plays drums.
WHERE DID THE NAME REUBEN COME FROM?
it's the name of jamie's first ever friend. he was ginger.
I'VE HEARD YOU HAVE FINALLY SIGNED A RECORD DEAL. IS THIS TRUE?
you bet it is. we all put our names on that dotted line and signed our soul to Xtra mile, a fine company who are funded by sony records
YOU'VE JUST COMPLETED YOUR BIGGEST HEADLINE TOUR TO DATE. HOW DID IT GO?
it's been absolutely brilliant.  the crowds have been excellent and full every night, and we're real close with the other bands
WHICH WERE THE BEST AND WORST GIGS OF THE TOUR?
the best has got to be the middlesborough live show, if only for the size of the crowd. hundreds and hundreds of people - the room was paked!  and the worst show would have to be notingham rock city because jamie's pedals broke and we had to do the whole rock show with only clean guitar...but it still rocked and it was a lot of fun!
YOUVE TOURED WITH LOTS OF DIFFERENT BANDS IN THE PAST. WHO HAVE YOU MOST ENJOYED PLAYING WITH AND WHY?
it's difficult to say. we all have different ideas.  but i think we all agree that hell is for heroes treated us very kindly for a such a big
headline band, they were never anything less than equal and sharing in every respect. lovely chaps.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SEPTEMBRE? BETTER THAN VEX RED?
septembre and scenes are like splitting vex red right down the middle. it's like, which is better? the two 'station' aliens from bill and ted? or the one big one?
DO YOU GET NERVOUS BEFORE GOING ON STAGE?
no
HOW DO YOU STRUCTURE YOUR SET?
well at the moment we're literally picking out of a hat (Well, jamie's pocket) we write all our songs down on pieces of paper and play the first 14 or so we pull out.
WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY ABOUT PERFORMING?
the crowd reaction. hearing people sing the songs or recognising old ones
WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU DO AFTER A GIG?
go, 'fuck'! , drink water, clear up our gear
DO YOU EVER GET HOMESICK WHILE ON TOUR?
not really.
IS IT DISHEARTENING ON THE NIGHTS FEW PEOPLE TURN UP TO SEE YOU?
we'd be lying if e said no, but you have to remember that those poeple that did turn up made the effort and you owe them a good show.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE ON YOUR RIDER?
sanwiches crisps drinks
HAVE YOU GOT ANY PLANS TO TOUR ELSEWHERE OUTSIDE OF THE UK DURING 2004?
no plans as yet.  that's for the label to deicide
WHAT IS THE MOST SPINAL TAP MOMENT REUBEN HAVE EVER HAD ON TOUR?
this one night, we all watched spinal tap on video...
WILL YOU BE PLAYING ANY OF THE SUMMER FESTIVALS?
if they ask us
YOU HAVE A NEW SINGLE, 'FREDDY KREUGER'. WHAT IS THE TRACK ABOUT?
it's about tensions within the band caused by not having a deal.  coal chamber had a song called 'loco', about much the same thing. it rocks.
THE TRACK IS GETTING PLAYED ON NATIONAL RADIO. THE VIDEO IS GETTING PLAYED ON ALL THE BIG MUSIC CHANNELS. THESE ARE EXCITING TIMES FOR THE BAND?
of course. these are the times when the work you've been putting in that nobody sees pays off.
TELL US THE STORY BEHIND THE VIDEO FOR THE TRACK.
everyone has moustaches. then jon dies.
IT IS TAKEN FROM YOUR DEBUT ALBUM, 'RACECAR IS RACECAR BACKWARDS'. CLEVER TITLE. WHO THOUGHT OF IT?
seb carey, the bassist from caretaker.  clever fella.
WHAT OTHER POSSIBLE NAMES FOR THE ALBUM DID YOU COME UP WITH?
um...none really, that was always kind of it.
WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT FROM THE ALBUM?
value for money.  diversity.  strings.  satisfaction.
BET YOU'RE EXCITED ABOUT IT'S RELEASE?
fuck yeah
ANY INTERESTING TALES FROM THE STUDIO THAT YOU CARE TO SHARE WITH US?
none at all. we sweated all the time and ate 80p curry every day. and invented an imaginary little indian boy called 'rumbeet'
MUSICALLY AND LYRICALLY, WHICH OF THE SONGS YOU'VE WRITTEN IS YOUR FAVOURITE?
well, it;s jim that does the writing. and he likes 'moving to blackwater'.
WOULD YOU EVER CONSIDER DOING ANY COVERS?
yes. if they were cracking songs
IS IT STRANGE SEEING YOURSELVES IN MAGAZINES AND ON TV ETC?
not really. we're in  rock band. it's kind of part of the deal.
DO YOU FEEL ALL FAMOUS?
no
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT YOU COULD MAKE AS A BAND?
to make it into someone's record collection. to make at least one person's favourite album.
WHAT BAND EXPERIENCE WOULD YOU LIKE TO RE LIVE?
starting it, pulling all the members together
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ALBUM OF ALL TIME?
see, this is where these internet interviews fall down. most fo these questions have been directed (or sounded like they were directed) at the band as a whole, and i've been answering them on behalf of the band. but this sounds like and individual question. what do i do?
IF YOU COULD INTERVIEW YOURSELVES, WHAT QUESTIONS WOULD YOU ASK?
would you like some cake?...would you like some tea? would you like to watch tv?
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE WHOLE BIG BROTHER THING?
it's a good idea but the last one proves that you can't just put any old bunch of people togteher and have it be interesting...some people are just genuinely dull. but they've got some interesting ones this year, so good.
DO YOU EVER READ ANY OF THE MESSAGES YOUR FANS LEAVE ON YOUR FORUM?
sometimes, just to see what people think about stuff
WHAT DO YOU HAVE PLANNED FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR?
releasing records playing shows etc

ALL QUESTIONS BY SCREAMING TARTS.
