QUEEN ADREENA + DE-CODA. AT THE NEW ROSCOE, LEEDS. 23/ 10/ 02.
It was nearly two years to the exact day since we last saw Queen Adreena. We went to that gig for my 16th birthday and this one for my 18th. This gig was held in Leeds. Everytime we have been to gigs in Leeds in the past we had got lost. We did quite well this time round though and even made it to the venue before support band De-Coda. They turned up late after getting held up in traffic jams on the motorway. Because of this, they didnt come on stage until half past nine. The wait was worth it though. Their mix of poppy rock nu-metal worked well. They seemed very professional. No messing about in between songs. They knew exactly what they were doing. Im pretty sure they will make it big. If they dont have a record deal yet, they soon will. The Queen Adreena fan base seems to be getting bigger. The band are still playing tiny venues though. I for one hope it stays that way. I think their live magic would be lost in bigger venues. As soon as they came on stage, the crowd surged forward, in particular towards a certain Miss Katie Jane Garside, formally of Daisy Chainsaw. The audience was a mixture of old and young. The old were no doubt fans of Daisy Chainsaw. The young probably to young to remember them. The purpose of this tour was to promote second album Drink Me and latest single FM Doll which in my opinion is their best single to date. Having not got the album I didnt reconise a lot of the songs performed in tonights 40 minute set. That didnt matter though. Every track was fantastic. The whole band were on top form. Katie Jane has a beautiful voice and a beautiful body. Her ass ended up in my face on several occasions. Not that Im complaining of course. She is so energetic and full of life. She spent more time on top of the crowd than she did on stage. When she was on stage she spent her time throwing chairs around and beating up her ex Daisy Chainsaw bandmate Crispin Gray. He must have a lot of bruises. So must she. I think Katie is amune to pain though. A lot of the time she doesnt really seem to be aware of everything that is happening around her. Probably for the best. How would you like having fat, bald, middle aged men touching you up at every available opportunity?! That is what was happening tonight. Bassist Orson recently left the band. Not sure what the new bassist is called but he seems to have fitted in well with the rest of the group. Drummer Pete Howard completes the line up. Not that people pay any attention to anyone except Katie. She is certainly the star of the show. She seems to be quite an icon. Especially amongst teenage girls. To them she is a role model. If you havent seen Queen Adreena live before, make sure you do. Youre cheating yourselves by not doing so.
