PULP + BRITISH SEA POWER.
AT DALBY FOREST.  22/ 06/ 02.

Pulp are one of my all time favorite bands. I had been looking forward to this gig ever since it was announced about seven months ago, way back in December. The days, weeks and months slowly went by and the night of the gig finally arrived. It was a Saturday night, it was warm, the sun was shining and we were in the beautiful setting of Dalby Forest.
Some how we managed to get on the front row. I was so happy. It was such a good night. Jarvis is so amazing. We were so close to him. Hopefully Ill have some good photos. He looked at me and pointed at me. Yay!
They mainly sang tracks from latest release We Love Life, A Different Class and This Is Hardcore. They opened with Feeling Called Love which is one of my favorite tracks from A Different Class. Its such a good song.
Another highlight was A Little Soul. Its so beautiful. They then went on to sing Weeds, Bad Cover Version and Birds In Your Garden which if Pulp have any sense will be a future single. Its one of the many tracks from We Love Life that has the theme of nature in it so it was very fitting that the gig was taking place in a forest clearing.
At this point the Sun was starting to set. The trees looked so pretty. They had been lit up with special lighting.
After Help The Aged; I Love Life and This Is Hardcore were sung before they concluded with the fantastic Sunrise.
In the first of two encores they sang Trees, the classic Babies from 1994 album His n Hers and the oldest song of the night I Want You which was a great surprise because they rarely sing tracks that old. They then returned once again to perform Underwear and the final song of the night Common People for which the crowd went mental.
Pulp are releasing a Greatest Hits album in the Autumn. I just hope it doesnt mean theyre splitting up. On CD theyre amazing but live they are outstanding. I so cannot wait to see them again at the Leeds Festival. They so deserve to be headling it. They are way better than The Strokes. Pulp have been around 20 years. The Strokes however have about 13 songs in their entire back catalogue. It just doesnt seem fair that they are headlining over one of Britains best bands.
At the Dalby gig, The Coral and Richard Hawley were due to support but neither turned up and there was no explanation to why not. Instead we got up and coming rockers British Sea Power. They were hilarious to watch but not as funny as the in between song banter that Jarvis never fails to provide. Nothing can beat that. I would so love to meet him. Hes an amazing guy and I hope he and Pulp continue to write songs for many more years to come.
