PHLUID + VICIOUS CABARET + FUD U LIKE.
SELBY FOOTBALL CLUB. 21/05/04.

For tonights festivities ladies and gentlemen, we have chosen the somewhat salubrious Selby Football Club. Local lads Phluid have promised to bring their high octane rawk n roll back to their hometown and have brought some showbiz chums along for the ride.
First up are Fud U Like, who have the largely youthful crowd bouncing and headbanging across the dancefloor. Hailing from Leicester, the band deliver a variety of musical styles, ranging from hard and heavy to downright daft. Entertaining, but not exactly life-changing.
Next are sneering sociophobes, Vicious Cabaret. Led by permanently pissed off singer, Steve, they describe their sounds as rock noir barbed guitars, biting lyrics and a good deal of contempt for, well, everybody really. The audience lap it up, bouncing and cheering the band as returning heroes, despite this being their first venture onto Selby soil. With responses like this, Vicious Cabaret may just take up residency here you have been warned!
And onto the hometown heroes, the phantastic and phabulous Phluid. As the band take to the stage (in the loosest possible sense of the word no such luxuries as stages at this venue) the kids crowd the already packed dance floor, greeting the band as the stars that they should be.
Kicking off with a frantic version of L.O.V.E.D.U.P. the band power through a set featuring oldies, newies, album tracks and even covers. To the audience they can do no wrong and each song is lapped up with seemingly more enthusiasm than the last. Polly preens, pouts and milks the attention for all its worth, sharing vocal duties with half the front row during some songs. Getting the audience of largely underaged kids singing that they fucked like bunnies on crack was a particularly inspired moment! I hope there were no parents in attendance
Always impressive, in tonights packed out room, with a crowd baying for more, they are positively on fire. If this is a sign of things to come then watch out world, Phluid are coming atcha. And if not, then thank you Selby, at least you know how to rock!

BY LITTLE HELL.
