PHLUID + DOGHOUSE FLOWERS + KONSPIRACY.
AT YORK FIBBERS.  18/ 04/ 03.

This gig was in aid of the Ghana Youth Exchange, the project that allows youths from Ghana to come over and stay in the city of York. The first band of the evening were Konspiracy, a 3 piece group of local 14 year olds. Very talented 14 year olds. You expect kids of that age to belt out Blink 182 and GreenDay cover versions. Not these guys. We did get a Feeder cover but most of the set was original indie/rock material. They seemed professional and totally at ease on stage. They have a long and successful future ahead of them me thinks.
For one night and one night only Ginna from Phluid was back drumming for his old band Doghouse Flowers. They went down really well with the crowd, a big majority of which were dancing throughout their set. It seemed to be a real party atmosphere. The band provided us with covers of tracks from the likes of The Beatles and Mr Bob Dylan amongst others. Their set seemed to last for ages. It got kind of boring after a while.
After the raffle tickets were drawn in what seemed like a 10 minute game of bingo it was on with the show and over to headliners Phluid, one of the most overlooked and under exposed bands in the country. These guys deserve to be huge. Theyve been together over 5 years now and in the grand scheme of things dont seem to have much to show for it.
Tonight lead singer Polly, (hes a man by the way), looked an acted more like a rock star than ever before. After opening with Heroine the group launched straight into Pure, one of only a couple of old tracks performed. A majority of their set was made up of material from the forthcoming 6 track mini album due for release in the summer.
Ginna was recently offered the job as a replacement for Robin Guy in Rachel Stamp. After a band meeting to discuss the future of Phluid, Ginna (real name Ian), turned down the offer and decided to stay with Phluid for one last stab at making it big. A wise move. These next 18 months are crucial for the band. If in that time they dont get anymore recognition, it will be the end of one of the best bands around.
Polly dedicated American Jihad to President Bush who he blamed for most of the problems in the world. Tasty was described as a shagging song. Classic track Stray Day was performed before concluding with the Adam And The Ants track Ant Music. It was indeed a Good Friday.
