OASIS + THE SOUNDTRACK OF OUR LIVES. AT HULL ARENA. 2ND+3RD JULY 2002.
I couldnt believe it and didnt believe it when somebody at work told me that Oasis were coming to Hull. The guy who told me often made up such stories so I didnt take any notice of him. I found out later that he was telling the truth and Oasis were indeed coming to Hull for not just one but two gigs. Hull gets few big bands like Oasis playing there so it was a really big thing for the city and surrounding area. Everyone was talking about it and everybody wanted tickets. The venue only holds around 3000 people so tickets for both nights sold out fast, in less than an hour. Many people didnt get tickets and were turned away, I however got tickets for both nights. I more than deserved them though. I waited a total of 13 hours for them overnight, outside in the freezing cold with little clothing, no sleeping bag, no food and nothing to do except pray I got tickets. On the 1st night of the 2 gigs I went with my mum but went alone on the 2nd. The Soundtrack Of Our Lives supported. A lot of people seem to think that theyre a new band when in actual fact theyve been around about 10 years and have released several albums. They were really good and energetic but I remember little of their set because all I wanted was to see Oasis. I was so excited, especially as I got on the front row both nights. I was probably even more excited on the 2nd night than on the 1st because I knew what was coming and what to expect. They walked on to Fuckin In The Bushes like Gods. Liam been the biggest God of all. People really do seem to worship him. There were several lookalikes present at the gigs. They opened with Hello which features the lyrics its good to be back. The feeling of the crowd echoed the lyrics. Last time Oasis played in Hull was 8 years ago when they were virtually unknown and just about to release Supersonic which didnt appear in tonights set. However lots of old classics did appear including rock anthem Cigarettes & Alcohol for which the crowd went mental. Other oldies included Some Might Say, B-side Acquiesce during which Liam lied down on the stage floor and left the crowd and Noel to sing, Morning Glory, Columbia, Live Forever which was a nice surprise and Dont Look Back In Anger to which everybody sang along to. It was a great atmosphere. Of course, as well as the old songs, they also sang more recent tracks from latest album Heathen Chemistry including the singles Stop Crying Your Heart Out, The Hindu Times and rumored next single Little By Little. They also sang DYer Know I Mean from Be Here Now and Go Let It Out from Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants. They concluded with a cover version of The Whos My Generation during which Liam jumped of stage and walked down the gap between the front row and stage, giving his tambourine to the person next to me, some stupid annoying girl. Why didnt he give it to me, his tambourine that is?! Its totally not fair. Earlier in the set, Liam also threw out from the stage his microphone. On the 2nd night I did however manage to get his set-list which Ill treasure forever. It was a great couple of nights, which I will remember for a very long time.
