MISS BLACK AMERICA + ANTIHERO + BECKY JAGO. AT SCARBOROUGH KAZBAH. 02/ 08/ 03.
This gig was part of the Love Music Hate Racism summer tour. Portsmouth political punks Cultural Ice Age were ment to be playing but due to a fall out with Miss Black America, they have cancelled their support slot on the whole tour. Not the best of moves considering the two bands are about to release a split single together. Apparently Cultural Ice Age have been making promises that they couldnt keep and failed to show for the first night of the tour. I will not reveal who told me all this but it definitely wasnt Pete from Antihero. Filling the space left empty by Cultural Ice Age were grindcore metal band Becky Jago. Hmmmmmmm. They arent exactly the type of band you would expect to see playing with Miss Black America and Antihero but anyway. They were better than a lot of metal bands I have seen but that kind of music aint really my cup of tea. Mmmmmmmm. Tea. At least these guys had abit of variety. Even alittle ska was mixed in with all the pointless screaming and shouting. Oh, and for anyone that cares, Cooper from Miss Black America is also the Becky Jago drummer. That probably explains why Seymour from Miss Black America was spotted down the front. Or maybe, just maybe, he actually likes them? Lets hope not. Since last seeing Antihero, Pete seems to have grown even taller. Or maybe Ive become shorter? I dunno. Marcus seems to have more hair, Davo is still Davo and Jack put me on the guestlist, which was nice. They opened up with a song. That was followed by another song and another and a few more. I would love to tell you the names of said songs but I dont know them. Dont you just hate it when bands dont use setlists? What I do know though is that Antihero seem to be getting better with every gig they play. They performed a few new tracks last night, all of which sounded fantastic. They are young, they are energetic, they are sexy and cool, just like you, just like you. They all seem to be good mates too. Rumour has it they are now all living together. If I had my way, Antihero would have been headlining. They were the real stars of the show. Miss Black America were quite disappointing if Im honest. Since forming the new line up together, the musical style of the band seems to have changed. The older tracks are miles better than the newer ones. A handful of new tracks were aired during the set and they certainly werent anything special. It was great seeing tracks like Human Punk and Talk Hard been performed again though. New single Drowning By Numbers was performed just before Miss Black America. God bless em.
