MINUTEMAN + MEDIUM 21 + SUPPORT. AT YORK FIBBERS. 02/ 12/ 02.
Due to the late addition of Medium 21 to the bill, 4 bands were now playing instead of 3. This ment an earlier than normal start resulting in us catching just one track by first act, Yorks very own AKP. What we saw was good though. Red: Shift were ok. Their music sounded cool however their singer couldnt really sing. His voice wasnt really suited to singing if that makes sense? I couldnt really hear or understand any of his vocals. If they got a new front person I think Id like them a lot more than what I currently do. Medium 21 were fantastic. We didnt even no they were playing until we turned up at the venue. It was a nice surprise. I had wanted to see them for ages. They have recently been signed to Temptation Records who have clearly invested a lot of money into the band. A very worthwhile investment too me thinks. As with all good bands, at least a couple of members had nice hair. Like I have said before, when a band has nice hair you know before they even start playing that theyre going to be good. Medium 21 were very good indeed. Matt Jones was the keyboard player in Ultrasound. They split up a couple of years ago now. Richard Green went on to form The Somatics. Matt Jones went on to form Minuteman. They are a four-piece also featuring Paul Thomson on bass, James Dare on guitar and Tim Weller on drums. Signed to Ignition Records, the band have already had support slots with the likes of The Cooper Temple Clause, The Music, The Charlatans and Mercury Rev. They also played Glastonbury and the Carling Weekend at Reading and Leeds. Tonight they were headlining in front of a very disappointing turn out. The venue was only about half full. They went down really well with the around 125 people who did bother to turn up though. There were lots of dedicated fans there, many of which seemed to know every lyric of every song. Most performed tonight were taken from debut album Resigned To Life. Like on the album, when performed live these tracks are epics. Most seem to last around 6 minutes. Singles Big Boy, 5000 Minutes Of Pain and Gave You All The Blame are the tracks that went down the best.
