MEDIUM 21 + THE RAIN BAND. AT YORK FIBBERS. 03/ 03/ 03.
Before seeing The Rain Band I had only previously heard one of their tracks. I liked what I had heard though so knew I had to be at that gig because if I wasnt I would end up regretting it. I bought my ticket just 4 days in advance but I was still only ticket number 19. I was expecting it to be real quiet on the night. I was shocked but pleased when I arrived to find the venue busy. It wasnt as busy as what it should have been though. The Rain Band were on before Medium 21 tonight. Both bands had been taking it in turns to headline throughout the tour. They reminded me a lot of The Stone Roses, Ian Brown and alittle of The Music. The frontman had the same onstage arrogance of Ian Brown, spoke like him walked like him and stood like him. He looked abit like him too. Luckily though The Rain Band are better than what Ian Brown will ever be. For those who dont know, I hate Ian Brown. Wanker. Anyway, back to The Rain Band. They opened with a track called Runaways. It was soon followed by recent single Easy Rider, of which I now have three copies. Ill sell the spares on Ebay in a few years time when theyre worth a bob or two like, Dyer know what I mean? I could see very little of what was happening on stage due to the shockingly bright lights. What was that all about? Not sure if the lights had travelled on tour or if the venue had invested in them but getting them was not a wise move. Next single Knee Deep And Down was one of the highlights. It will be released in May if anyone cares. The crowd at the gig didnt seem to. They remained scarily quiet in between songs. There didnt seem to be much of an atmosphere. There were a few dedicated fans in the crowd though who were singing along to every line of nearly every song. After Fist Of Fury came debut single The World Is Ours. Judging by the lack of response from tonights crowd, the world is far from been theirs. However, after a couple more singles and tours, I reckon these guys are going to be huge. They concluded with Eye 4 Eye and Into The Light. Medium 21 had played Fibbers a couple of times before but this gig was their first attempt at headlining here. I was quite disappointed by them. They were good but not as good as last time I saw them. Certainly dont think theyre good enough to be headlining yet. However their tracks must be catchy and memorable because I recognised most from last time I saw them. That was a few months ago. Their best track, in my opinion anyway, is recent single Daybreak Vs Pride.
