LONGVIEW + WAITING FOR CHAN.
AT YORK FIBBERS.  08/ 07/ 03.

There was some confusion when Waiting For Chan began their set. Me and my brother werent sure who they were. We kind of thought that they were Longview. I realised after a few songs though that it wasnt Longview but was actually just the support band. They were a bloody good support band though. However I did get alittle bored during a few of their slower tracks. The voice of frontman Tay reminded me a little of Matt from Muse in places. But in general Waiting For Chan minded me of bands such as Coldplay. What with the use of a piano and all that.
We were ment to see Longview in Hull at the end of May but didnt for some reason. I really wish we had. They were amazing. These guys must be amongst the hardest working in rock at the moment. They have been touring constantly for months. It is all now starting to pay off though and very soon Longview will be a house hold name.
They walked on stage to some intro music then began with a track called Electricity. They looked quite pleased with the reaction from the crowd. I knew straight away that I was going to really like these guys. Up until the gig I had only heard like two tracks by them or something.
Cant Explain was followed by Still and 2nd single When You Sleep. Rob was in charge of most vocal duties during the 50 minute set but bassist Aidan, guitarist Doug and drummer Matt helped him out with backing vocals on a regular basis. Doug looked more rock star like than the rest of the band and seemed to quite like posing for the camera.
Third single Nowhere was followed by a song called I Would before they concluded with the superb Further. Further was the first ever single to be released by Longview. It has been re-released this week though and is all set to enter the top 40 this weekend. The track has been getting major air play on stations including Radio One and prompted the biggest applause of the evening from the fairly big, mainly student based crowd.
After a few minutes, the band returned for a two song encore which featured the songs This Is and Will You Wait Here. Every track performed tonight was taken from the forthcoming debut album called Mercury. Mercury was also the title of a single released by Lowgold a few years back. Its quite ironic really. Longview reminded me a lot of Lowgold. That is definitely a good thing. I used to love Lowgold and Im starting to fall in love with Longview now too.
