KINESIS + REUBEN + MISS BLACK AMERICA.
AT YORK FIBBERS. 11/ 02/ 03.

Late last year Miss Black America split up and called it a day. Sort of. Apparently Seymour Glass is hard to get on with. The rest of the band could no longer put up with him so decided to go their own ways. Thats what I heard anyway. Seymour however has since re-formed the band with a new line up and Miss Black America are back, better, louder and with more attitude than ever before. I was there to witness day four of their current tour with Reuben and Kinesis.
The night began with a trip to the venue toilets. As I was finishing off, I looked to the left of me and realised I had been doing the business alongside a certain Seymour. Awwwwwwwww bless him. A few minutes later, fresh from been my pissing partner, he was on stage and going crazy. He is such an amazing frontman, so full of energy. Talk Hard sounded soooooooooo good. No wonder it got to number three in the John Peel Festive Fifty. It deserved to be number one.
Seymour is Miss black America. The other members of the band are just his backing group. Seymour is the star and he knows it. On stage his ego is huge. Think its just an act though because off stage he is truly loverly. The new members of the band are just as good as the members they replace. I dont think it really matters who Seymour has playing with him though. The band would be nothing without him. Their set was short. Only lasted about 25 minutes. Didnt matter though. It was 25 minutes of pure quality.
We saw Reuben here just a couple of months ago. Since then they seemed to have improved a lot and seem to have a bigger fanbase. They were good last time. This time they were even better. Latest single Lets Stop Hanging Out closed their set in style. Everyone knew the words and everyone sang along to it. Once more people know more Reuben songs, their gigs will be amazing. They seem to be rising to fame quickly now and have recently appeared in and on a whole host of magazines, radio shows and TV shows. Their hard work is starting to pay off.
Kinesis have recently supported the Manic Street Preachers; one of their main influences and one of my favourite ever bands. Quite an achievement. They have also played alongside bands such as Queen Adreena and King Adora. This tour is there biggest headline tour to date. A lot of the dates on it had sold out. These guys will be massive.
After opening with One Way Mirror, I knew straight away that I was going to like this band a lot. Its always great seeing a new, fresh band so full of energy.  One of the highlights of their set had to be Average America Corpse. It reminded me a lot of the Manics.
The crowd wasnt very lively which was a shame and in between songs it remained silent. During the last few songs though the atmosphere picked up a lot and latest single And They Obey got a really good response.
I didnt have time to stay and chat with Kinesis but on the way out I did bump into Seymour again. He was posing for a photo at the time. With a donkey. I shit you not.
