| AN INTERVIEW WITH.... DARRAN FROM FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND. SO FOR THOSE THAT DON�T ALREADY KNOW, WHO IS IN FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND AND WHAT DOES EACH MEMBER DO? Matt (vocals), Ryan (drums & vocals), Gareth (bass), Kris (guitar), Darran (guitar). HOW DID YOU ALL MEET AND COME TO FORM THE BAND TOGETHER? We met through playin in various bands within the local scene. YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC HAS BEEN DESCRIBED BY THE PRESS AS EMO. WOULD YOU AGREE WITH THAT? I think our music is a mixture of lots of different styles! Metal, Punk, Post hardcore, emo. WHO ARE YOUR INFLUENCES? From Morbid angel to Tracy chapman and all points in between! WHERE DID THE NAME FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND COME FROM? It was the title of a track on an album by a band called planes mistaken for stars! YOUR NEW SINGLE IS CALLED �JUNEAU�. WHAT IS IT ABOUT? It's about whatever the listener interprets it to be about! IT IS A NEW VERSION OF AN OLD TRACK. HOW DO THE TWO TRACKS DIFFER? The arrangement is slightly different, it's a bit shorter and more singing style vocals on it! ARE YOU SURPRISED AT THE SUCCESS OF �JUNEAU�? Yeah very shocked but we're always surprised if anything we do is succesful to be honest! DO YOU FEEL FAMOUS? No, because i'm not and never will be! YOU WILL BE RELEASING YOUR DEBUT ALBUM LATER THIS YEAR. TELL US ABOUT IT. It's called "casually dressed and deep in conversation" and i think people can expect a few surprises if they think they already know what we're about! WHERE DID THE NAME FROM THE ALBUM COME FROM? Just a title that was mentioned a long time ago that we really liked! No big interesting story behind it, sorry! ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT IT�S RELEASE? Of coarse, yeah! Cant wait to hear some feedback on what people think! THE FORUM ON YOUR WEBSITE HAS LOTS OF MEMBERS. DO YOU EVER GO ON THERE AND READ ANY OF THE MESSAGES? Yeah constantly its a great way of gettin an idea of what people who like what we do think! YOU�VE PLAYED WITH BANDS INCLUDING FINCH AND BOYSETSFIRE. WHO HAVE YOU MOST ENJOYED PLAYING WITH AND WHY? All the bands we've played with have been cool to be honest but if i had to choose i'd say Boysetsfire! Those guys are just lovely people! IF YOU COULD PLAY WITH ANY OTHER BAND IN THE WORLD, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY? Iron Maiden or Metallica i think cos they're such legendary and influential bands! DO YOU GET NERVOUS BEFORE GOING ON STAGE? Yeah i do, but i think thats what makes playing live so exciting for me! WHEN AND WHERE WAS YOUR FIRST EVER GIG? Feb 2002 in a little pub in bridgend called the Tollhouse! HOW DID YOUR RECENT TOUR GO? It was amazin,every date was sold out and the reaction from the crowds was awesome! WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE? PRS & GIbson guitars, Crate blue voodoo 300 heads and Hughes & Kettner cabs! WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR? Touring, releasing the album and more touring! Which will include the states, europe and uk! WHAT FIRST MADE YOU WANT TO JOIN/FORM A BAND? Just being a huge music fan first and foremost.Then wanting to try and create my own! WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR ANYONE THINKING ABOUT STARTING UP A BAND? Go for it i say, providing you always enjoy it cos there's always hassles involved but if you can put up with those then yeah definately go for it! Cos it can be so enjoyable. ROCK!
