| AN INTERVIEW WITH.... EMILY EAVIS. GLASTONBURY 2003 SOLD OUT IN RECORD TIME. WERE YOU SURPRISED AT JUST HOW QUICKLY TICKETS DID SELL? Yes. We sold out in a week in 1995, and that was our quickest ever, but this is unbelievable. I think people are aware that this could be the last year. Every year is like the last these days! WHY DO YOU THINK PEOPLE RUSHED TO BUY THEIR TICKETS SO SOON THIS YEAR COMPARED TO PREVIOUS YEARS? I think after last years increased security, people have realised that now, if you wanna come to Glastonbury, you have to buy a ticket. WHY DO YOU THINK GLASTONBURY IS SO POPULAR COMPARED TO OTHERS FESTIVALS? I think it has retained it's integrity, the roots of how it started are still visible. There is also no sponsor name in the title which says something i rekon....we woudn't go there either. No way. MANY PEOPLE WHO DIDN�T GET TICKETS WERE LEFT FEELING DISAPPOINTED. ARE THERE ANY PLANS TO GIVE PEOPLE WITHOUT TICKETS THIS YEAR PRIORITY FOR GETTING TICKETS NEXT YEAR? We're looking into it at the moment, but no decisions to be made until July, we'll keep you informed. THE LINE UP FOR GLASTONBURY 2003 HAS JUST BEEN ANNOUNCED. ROUGHLY HOW MANY BANDS WILL BE APPEARING THIS YEAR? One thousand...roughly and a couple thousand other acts, not including bands. OF THESE, WHO ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING AND WHY? I love the Kings Of Leon, they're on the New Bands Tent....and Sigur Ros, on Sunday night on the Other Stage. DID ANY OF THE BANDS ASKED TO PLAY AT GLASTONBURY TURN DOWN THE OFFER? Not that I know of!! -unless they were away touring the US, or for some logistical reason! WHICH GLASTONBURY PERFORMANCE FOR YOU HAS BEEN MOST MEMORABLE? Primal Scream in 93, Orbital 94, Radiohead 97, Oasis 95. All of these sets have been really significantin terms of my personal Glastonbury history. GLASTONBURY ISN�T JUST ABOUT THE MUSIC. IT HAS SOME VERY UNIQUE FEATURES. TELL US ABOUT A FEW OF THEM. The Theatre, Circus, Cabaret, mime, Green Fields, healing fields....so much other than the music. Some people come here and don't see one band... HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO ORGANISE GLASTONBURY EACH YEAR? y dad works full time on it really, i only come down for the months surrounding. WHICH BANDS WHO YOU LIKE TO HEADLINE GLASTONBURY 2004? I think it'd be good to get The Stones don't you|? They've never done it! EACH YEAR GLASTONBURY RAISES A STACK OF CASH FOR CHARITY. HOW MUCH MONEY HAS BEEN RAISED OVER THE YEARS? millions. Not sure exactly how much. Last year charities benefitted from over a million pounds. THIS YEAR YOU�RE GETTING BEHIND THE OXFAM �MAKE TRADE FAIR� CAMPAIGN. TELL US ALITTLE ABOUT IT AND WHY YOU�RE CHOOSING TO PROMOTE THIS PARTICULAR CAMPAIGN. This is Oxfams big campaign at Glastonbury this year. We are really throwing our weight behind it. It's ultimately about giving farmers in poorer countries a decent price for their crop. The western world is being subsidised and therefore over producing crops and dumping the excess on poorer countries who produce their own crops, but can't compete with the prices of American rice, for example. On a basic consumer level we can make a difference by buying fair trade products. Go to www.maketradefair.com MANY PEOPLE WILL BE HEADING FOR THE FESTIVAL THIS YEAR AS GLASTONBURY VIRGINS SO TO SPEAK. WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR THEM? Don't over do it, mark your camping area with a flag or such like, so you can find your tent! HOW CAN ANY BANDS READING THIS GET A GIG AT GLASTONBURY? WHAT DO THEY NEED TO DO? send us a demo...i loisten to all of them, and go to lots of gigs too. CAN YOU YOURSELF PLAY ANY INSTRUMENTS?
