| AN INTERVIEW WITH. STEVEN FROM CRACKOUT. YOU HAVE BEEN HARD AT WORK RECORDING THE NEW ALBUM FOR QUITE SOME TIME. WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT FROM IT? Well its quite a progression from the last one we all think. We've really poured our heart and soul into it all and are really happy with what we have come up with. I think people can expect a really varied and interesting record with the odd toe tapper thrown in there. HOW WILL IT DIFFER FROM YOUR DEBUT? Much more mature, cultured and individual i supoose. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO CALL THE ALBUM 'OH NO'? Well we wanted to use a lyric from one of the songs, much like we did for TIRN, but it proved a little difficult to find something we liked and wasn't to pretentious or to happy go lucky. So finallly we found the oh no! at the end of out of our minds to be a good happy medium between pretence and humour. YOU'RE ASKING FANS TO SEND IN PHOTOS OF THEMSELVES SO THEY CAN BE INCLUDED WITHIN THE ARTWORK FOR THE ALBUM. IS THIS JUST AN EXCUSE TO LOOK AT PICTURES OF CUTE GIRLS?! Yes WILL THERE BE A TOUR TO GO WITH THE ALBUM WHEN IT IS FINALLY RELEASED IN SEPTEMBER? Yep, we are holding off doing any major touring at the moment so we can really put our selves about when the record comes out. UNTIL RECENTLY YOU HADN'T TOURED FOR AWHILE. WAS IT GOOD TO GET BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN? Yes, very much. Touring is a really special experience. You get to drive around with six or seven or your closest mates and have a good time and at the end of the day we only really have half an hours work to do. WHEN AND WHERE WAS THE FIRST EVER CRACKOUT GIG? The first ever Crackout gig was in a park in Bicester in september 97. HOW DID IT GO? It was shit. DO YOU EVER GET NERVOUS BEFORE GOING ON STAGE? Sometimes, its quite nice to feel a little nevous excitement because it all just fall off you when you get on stage and thats a nice sensation. I also get quite nervous if the show is obviously going to be bad. Thankfully that doesn't happen to much, but if say my amp is playing up or my throat hurts then i get a little tense. HOW DO YOU STRUCTURE YOUR SET? I think we take each tour as it comes. We just try to put in a nice attention grabbing opener and after that, well whatever works best. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU DO AFTER WALKING OFF STAGE AT THE END OF A GIG? Barge past Nigel the Tour manager who is generally holding a tourch pointing at our feet. Then go to the dressing room and say something along the lines of "how did you find that?". Then go and find a drink. YOU HAVE A NEW SINGLE CALLED OUT OF OUR MINDS. WHAT IS IT ABOUT? Well, it's kind of a over romantic song about going out and dancing and having fights. That all sounds a bit strange but i think it works on a metaphorical level, in that respect its about growing up and trying to stop acting like a prick. Word. TELL US ABOUT THE STORY BEHIND THE VIDEO FOR THE SINGLE. Well i can take no credit/blame for this one, we just say yes or no when it comes to videos. But pretty much it is us playing to a sad, grumpy and frankly attractive cheerleader. Nick needs a piss so a puppet mouse takes over. understand? no? Join the club. I do really love the vid though. AS A BAND, WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENTS SO FAR? Well in truth i think the other guys will agree when i say that this new record is our best achievement. We are very very proud of it. WHICH OF YOUR LYRICS ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF? I'm really pround of lots of the words on the new record. I have kind of reallised what a privalige it is to be in the position where people will actually listen to what you say, so i really put a lot of heart in to the new songs. I think my favorites would be "Freakin all night" which is a romantic take on the R and B sentiment, Feel at home is another i like which is about close mates helping out. That all sounds very sentimental and cheesy but i promise it works. IF YOU FOUND OUT YOU ONLY HAD ONE DAY TO LIVE, HOW WOULD YOU SPEND IT? Good food and time with friends will be fine. WHAT FIRST MADE YOU WANT TO PICK UP A GUITAR AND JOIN/FORM A BAND? Iron maiden, i hate saying that ever since that dam wheatus song. I just liked to rock. WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR ANYONE THINKING ABOUT STARTING UP A BAND? Be your selves and don't try to be anything you are not. We've learned all that the hard way. ALL QUESTIONS BY MR MARTYN. Thanks martyn, hope that is all Ok for you. Ta. steven |
