| AN INTERVIEW WITH... OWEN FROM COLOUR OF FIRE. YOU RECENTLY PLAYED IN JAPAN. WHAT WAS THAT LIKE? Amazing, the audiences went mad at both shows, Osaka first and then Tokyo. We were expecting quite reserved crowds and ended up with quite the opposite, near hysteria. I HEAR THERE ARE ALREADY JAPANESE FAN SITES POPPING UP? Yep. Isn�t that lovely? HAVE YOU GOT ANY PLANS TO TOUR ELSEWHERE OUTSIDE OF THE UK DURING 2004? Hopefully�if all goes to plan (touch wood) we�ll do a bit of globetrotting� YOUR DEBUT ALBUM, �PEARL NECKLACE� IS DUE OUT SOON. WHERE DID THEY NAME OF THE ALBUM COME FROM? Well, we like the idea of having a title that is packed with contradiction, innuendo, beauty and decadence. It�s something of false value also�it looks beautiful but is made of mucus� downright mucky really. Then there�s the Viz meaning� ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT IT�S RELEASE? A mixture of excitement and dread(locks) IS IT TRUE YOUR TWO SINGLES, �DECISIONS DECISIONS� AND �CUT IT� WON�T FEATURE ON THE ALBUM? Yep, they hardly set the world alight now did they? ANY IDEA WHAT THE NEXT SINGLE WILL BE AND WHEN IT WILL BE OUT? It may be a downloadable single to start with, then a proper one right before the album�A few things need tie-ing up on the label side of matters first. �Italics�, and �The Exile� look likely to be singles�Things change every week in Fireland � though. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC? Commercial rock with an underground heart. IS IT STRANGE SEEING YOURSELVES IN MAGAZINES ETC? We don�t, in England. HAVE ANY OF YOU EVER MARRIED BRITNEY SPEARS AS A JOKE GONE WRONG AFTER A TWO DAY BOUT OF DRINKING? Britney Spears IS a joke. And no, Christina rocks more�well, kimono. WHAT IS THE MOST SPINAL TAP MOMENT COLOUR OF FIRE HAVE EVER HAD ON TOUR? In Tokyo we had a knock at our dressing room door as we were about to head for the stage, 35,000 fuckin� people waiting! It was a camera crew waiting to film our route to the stage for Japanese T.V� S2 had his guitar already on and Matt had his sticks in his back pocket. On the way to the stage we were all shouting �ROCK�N�ROLL!� until about � of the way through the treck when Matt, Thom and I suddenly realised we all needed to piss before going on stage! So there�s this fuckin� film crew waiting outside the toilet next to the stage with S2, and you can hear us still shouting �ROCK�N�ROLL!� from the urinals! I bet that looks quality on Japanese T.V�We all come out doing our flies up! Slick. DO YOU GET NERVOUS BEFORE GOING ON STAGE? No I�m a fuckin� pro! Well�a bit. I wouldn�t have it any other way though, I want to feel alive. HOW DO YOU STRUCTURE YOUR SET? I wont bore you with the details� WHICH TRACK DO YOU MOST ENJOY PERFORMING? A Couple of Reasons, maybe�Robot Rock�s fun as well WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU DO AFTER A GIG? Smoke. I can�t really smoke that much on the day of a gig because it fucks my voice up. I usually down a beer simultaneously to calm myself and catch my breath. A few hugs and kisses if it went really well and then paint the town red. DO YOU EVER GET HOMESICK WHILE ON TOUR? Rarely, there�s certain people I miss, certain people I don�t. IS IT DISHEARTENING ON THE NIGHTS FEW PEOPLE TURN UP TO SEE YOU? I really couldn�t care less�but playing to seas of people feels right. ANY OTHER BANDS FROM YOUR HOMETOWN OF YORK WE SHOULD BE LOOKING OUT FOR? Beyond all Reason are a great band, kicking it alongside us for York, maan. They�ll be signed soon, we�ll do some gigs together� WHY DO YOU HATE KING ADORA SO MUCH? We don�t. They came to see us play in Brum and were lovely chaps. CERTAIN MEMBERS FROM YOUR FORUM SEEM TO BE RATHER OBSESSED WITH YOU GUYS. SCARY HUH? Erm, not really. WHAT BANDS HAVE YOU BEEN OBSESSED WITH IN THE PAST? None. Getting �obsessed� with bands is a bit lame isn�t it? There are bands that I admire, buy their t-shirts, records and go to their gigs, but I�m not obsessed with them�S2 might argue otherwise though� Cursive, Bright Eyes, The Icarus Line, Idlewild, Q.O.T.S.A(get the fuck back in the band baldy!), Blur, Desaparecidos, Deftones�Y�know, good wholesome stuff. IF YOU WERE ALL CONTESTANTS ON THE SAME EDITION OF THE WEAKEST LINK, WHICH OF YOU WOULD LAST LONGEST? Definitely not Matt or me�Although we did win a pub quiz in a massive pub in Shepherd�s Bush with Thom in tow. Our prize was a shitty bottle of plonk and some England training tops that we presented to Dave, our Scottish manager. Funny fuckers aren�t we?
